@CameronsMomma: I think I wouldn't be as paranoid if I was already familiar with shaving (I don't shave anything! My legs are pretty smooth and I pluck the 2 armpit hairs I get each week)!

@Mrsbells: 2nd degree tear, got sutures, the doc just sutured as my tear was located more on the inside- no need to shave/remove hair. They just gave me a bottle to rinse with after using the facilities, seems to be working out fine.

@HabesBabe: It's actually not that bad. I do it in the shower, so no mirror, nothing, but I've done it in front of a mirror as well and with a mirror it's pretty easy. You're more likely to cut your finger than anything important and I already do that shaving my legs anyways.

I trim occasionally (like, once a month) and I've only waxed on special occasions (maybe 3 times a year?). Soooo I'm pretty bushy most of the time. I plan on trimming until the end, but we'll see how it goes.

I'm scared of shaving because I (a) won't be able to see what I'm doing with a sharp blade and (b) I've never shaved anything before so it freaks me out to start with that.

Oh my poor doctor. I didn't do any of the 3. I had every intention of doing so. But when you can't reach your vag. comfortably, trimming and shaving don't really seem important enough to contort to reach them. Waxing was what I thought I'd do, but there is so much pressure down there by that time, it seems like all the blood in your body has to that location, that I was afraid it'd be really painful.

I normally wax as it is (brazillian), but who knows what I'll do whenever I get preggo and it's say-hello-to-baby time. I'll probably either be waxed or closely trimmed.

I'll be waxed, which is the usual state of affairs down there. I dunno - I don't really think waxing hurts that much, especially after the first time, and especially if you go to someone good. So much easier than shaving!

I had a c-section and they were going to shave me, but the nurse was pleasantly surprised to see that I was waxed. I was planning to have my last wax 3 weeks before my due date, but delivered 6 weeks early.
I prefer to be clean which was my motivation and I couldn't see down there anymore. And hubs was not giving me a hard time about the growing out process.

Usually I just keep it trimmed- I trimmed what I could reach/see at 37 weeks, (not much) then forgot about it. It really was a non-issue for my vaginal birth. I had a second degree tear (trust me, not nearly as bad as such a thing sounds) and it still didn't matter at all.

I shave, and at 35 weeks it is really difficult going in literally blind to what I'm doing, but I do it anyways. I just have the hubs make sure I got most of it afterwards. I think he appreciates the effort more than any doctor will. Heck, they've seen it all anyways. But I know when I'm on my period I HATE not being shaved, or close to because it's sweaty and gross down there and in all honesty I'm afraid it'll mat worse than my dog does after a swim.

I got my last waxing about 4 weeks before I delivered, so things weren't TOO crazy down there.
My waxing lady is really fast and my last prenatal wax wasn't bad, but I was TERRIFIED of starting up again after having the baby. (It was fine. I mean, as far as using hot wax to rip hair off your hoo-ha goes).
I don't think it really affects birthing at all. Docs and nurses and doulas have seen it all, my husband was preoccupied with other concerns, and no one else was looking. Birth and its aftermath (like, several weeks worth of aftermath) are messy, and I suppose that it's a little easier to clean yourself up if you're not sporting Rapunzel-esque locks down there, but I don't think it's a big deal.

@Mrsbells: If you've never waxed, I recommend you don't.... I had a Brazilian done a few years back (I'm a shaver) and it hurt like a MOFO. My wax lady told me that it's more painful for shavers to get waxed because the hair has already been growing in in different directions... The best bet for waxers is au natural to waxing...

Thanks for all the responses.. I cant decide what i want to do. I've never waxed so i guess now is not a good time to start. I usually shave but its getting harder and harder to see what I'm doing.. I also dont want to shave and then end up with short stubble growing back a fews later when I'm all sore down there.. I may end up just leaving it to grow. But I thought it might be easier for the doctors if its all shaved.
