I don't think shaving it makes it grow in fuller, but it "evens things out" and removes the baby wispiness so the new hair appears more thick by default.

I plan to cut/trim LO's hair in the back this weekend at 10 weeks... he's got a mullet and it gets SO sweaty when I hold his head for nursing or after a car ride!

DD doesn't have much hair still at 16 mo, so I've totally gotten comments on how I should shave it, but I have not and will not!

@Mrs. Sunshine cancer patients take drugs that alter their bodies chemistry so significantly their hair falls out. Hair growth is affected by hormones. If you eat a poor diet your hair will suffer, it'll be dull, stringy, break, and fall out.

Things done outside the body ie. cutting hair, shaving hair or pulling out grey hairs for that matter doesn't change the chemical makeup of ones hair. Taking hormones, vitamins, chemo all will affect hair.

If shaving made ones hair grow out thicker and fuller Bruce Willis would look very different.

FTR I'm not opposed to head shaving I just think the rationale is flawed.

@oliviaoblivia: that makes sense but I've heard of so many people (cancer patients, mostly) whose hair has grown back a different color, a different texture (curly when it was straight before), I have to think that it changes something! That being said, I just let my kids have silly hair :silly:

My parents did this to my brother and it grew back a lighter color and thicker!

I have no idea why that happened.

I've heard of it, never done it, my girls have lots of thick hair.
I'm pretty sure that nothing you do on the outside of the body is going to affect the way it grows inside the body. The number and size of follicles isn't going to change, just the shape of the end of the hair by cutting.

@DenverMom: This is common in my DH's culture. We did my daughters hair at 4 months, she is almost a year and it has grown in nicely.

My Peruvian friend did this with her first pretty soon after she was born. With her second the American dad wasn't into the idea and her daughter's hair is still short and thin; she's 12.

Has anyone shaved their baby's hair so that it will come back thicker? My little girl has super thin stringy hair that just kind of lays on her forehead. It's super short in the back but much longer in the front. I'm fairly certain that it will eventually grow in nicely, but I've also heard that sometimes people shave the baby's hair and it helps with thickness. My little one is 10 months old.

Have you ever heard of this? Have you ever done it?
