I'm making some "Owie Dolls" for Christmas presents from a blogger I follow. Maybe it would help for her to be able to play pretend with a doll and give the doll "treatments". Might help open a dialogue into how she is feeling.

The blogger is really awesome and even created a "med hub" pattern for more significant illnesses. I bet you could adapt some of her patterns to make something specific to your situation.

Good luck!

@LuLu Mom: Thanks. It's hard when they are in pain and struggling. Is being treated by a Peds specific specialist? Or at children's hospital? They have great resources like child life to help with these things.

@Maysprout: yeah I've been trying to focus on the bigger leg clusters, hoping that when the body knows to fight it fights them all off. It's sad that something as little bumps takes so long to fight off. She really wants to do gymnastics, so we explain that she has to get rid of the bumps to do gymnastics, this helps her do it.

@MrsRcCar: Yeah I use brave and strong too, because honestly she is! She's had a rough go, no child should have as many doc appointments as she's had in her life! Strong children = strong mommas (which we both are!)

@LuLu Mom: hugs momma. She has been a trooper. I hope they find a solution soon. My guys don't communicate well yet so I am sure that will be a hard conversation. I just focus on telling them that I love them and they are so brave and strong.

@LuLu Mom: aww, hope it works. My daughter would yell no touch my boo boos and they looked so painful. My LO got some on her tummy too and I didn't put any cream there but they still went away. It seems like once you get the right irritant their body starts fighting them all off, but they were raw for awhile.

@Maysprout: We tried wart stuff first, but it didn't work but traumatized her (she has like 50+ on her stomach/thighs/back) so we went to the dermatologist and they gave us this cream. it seems to be working but she's pretty raw/red from it.

@mediagirl: I always feel bad, I just don't know if she's considered "chronic" when I know others are going through serious medical issues, hers seem pale in comparison.

That sucks. Both my kids had molluscum spots this summer. My older daughter it just went away on its own but for my younger daughter it kept spreading and spreading. The doctor said leave it alone or try a cream, but it kept getting worse, I tried ACV, that just burned but they didn't go away. I finally tried the wart remover gel. I didn't get it on all her spots and poor thing cried for about 2 minutes since it burns ( she had them on the back of her leg) but they all started scabbing over and she hasn't gotten any more. It only took once.

@LuLu Mom: This sounds so tough! I wish I had some good advice, and I'm interested to see what others have to say. Our LO has had a tough time health wise, but he's only 18 months so we haven't reached the point of being able to talk about it. Big hugs to you and your LO!

Oh, I'm so sorry. I don't have any words of advice but I bet there are some chronic mamas out there who can help. Poor kiddo and mama. :(

I struggle with how to talk to my 3 year old about her rough health. She's had a rough go, nothing super serious, but ever since she was 6 months she's had SOMETHING and been on medicine constantly. First it was her EE diagnosis with surgeries every 3-4 months, and then acid reflux and eczema, and now we are battling very persistent mollscum that we use lotion on that irritates the virus to cause the body to "fight" it off. It can be painful. She's so tough but now that she's older we get a lot of "why do I have to do this, so and so doesn't?"

How to you explain to your child who's had some health problems that it makes them special?
