You would lose some of the blousy-ness, but I think it would create a better proportion overall (even the teeny tiny model looks like she has some bulk to her under the dress because her body gets a little lost in the fabric (and her leg line is visually interrupted/shortened by her booties)).   I think it works either way, but I think a belt opens up a ton of possibilities - when you add a belt, you get to determine where you cinch/emphasize - more empire (narrowest part of your ribcage) or more true waist, whichever flatters your figure most.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Eta:  I would not belt it if it bunched a ton of fabric up around your waist - does that make sense?
