My weight fluctuates between 5 pounds and has since high school (I'm now 22). My in-laws have a wii-fit and one day I'll be "healthy" and the next I could be "overweight." I'm really short (5'0), but I have boobs and a butt. If I didn't I'm afraid I'd look incredibly young (People already think I'm still in high school). I go to the gym and eat healthy but I'm not really thin. I think I'd have to weigh about 110 pounds to have a BMI of 21.

Although I do think the BMI calculator is flawed and should be used with caution, I also think it is ok to use it as a general guideline for healthy weight. Of course it's not going to be accurate for every person as there are a lot of factors that need to be taken into consideration, but for an overall general idea of healthy weight, I think it's ok.

That being said, I think my BMI is spot on at 20.8 - I don't look underweight but also know I don't really need to lose any weight. On the other hand, my very tall husband has a BMI that is bordering on overweight (24.4), which we don't really worry about as he's a runner/cyclist and has a long, lean body type that is heavy on muscle and very low on fat.

Like I said, I think it should be used with caution but is ok for a general guideline.

I am in the normal range, when I use my pre preg. and current preg. weight (but I've only gained 12 lbs. so far). I did hubby's and he got all upset because he's on the high end of normal. What's funny is he's tall and thin, and in no way overweight, but I think PPs are right, it doesn't account for muscle weight, and an online calculator isn't going to be the most accurate test.

BMI calculators are WACK! You can get certain tests done at the Dr's to measure fat to muscle mass that is more pertinent to your overall health.

I have no intention of ever being the weight those calculators say I should be, bu I am well aware of the fact that I could use to lose more than a few. After baby comes I'll try to keep up the better eating habits and see what happens.

My BMI is around 27.5 but although I'm a wee bit overweight (prob 5kg's) I would need to lose 10kg's to be in the healthy range.

Interestingly enough one of my best friends wears the same size clothes as me but is 10-15kg's heavier and only 5cm;'s taller, so yeah, BMI can be a crock of sh*t. We're both pretty healthy and active so I don't take too much stock in the number.

Something to remember about the BMI is that it was originally developed as a means of measuring populations as opposed to inidividuals (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_mass_index)

Bmi isn't the most accurate but it is usually a good indicator. The people that it is complete bs for are pro/serious sportsman who have a whole lotta muscle and thus are 'obese' on the bmi but actually superfit. Most women can't put on that much muscle or train enough, we don't have the testosterone.

@cyndistar3: Dressing for your body is so key to looking good in general. The right clothes can hide the bad stuff if need be.

My husband and I got cholesterol and blood pressure checks last February. Mine were in a really good range, no problems. What's funny about the blood tests are that right next door is a Wendy's. I love, love Wendy's like nobody's business. Both of us went to Wendy's after our appointments!

@cyndistar3: With my height and weight, I'm considered obese at a size 14. Everyone who I mention that I need to work out looks at me like I have two heads. Everyone says that I look fine for my size and weight. I know that I have some trouble spots, but by all appearances, I look normal. My blood pressure is always good because despite the extra weight, I eat oatmeal almost everyday.

different online BMI calculators give different results. Only a specialist can computer yuor unique combination of height, weight and body frame to tell you the best weight you should be at.
The online BMI calculator has always told me I'm underweight but my doctors have always said I was fine.

I would have to weigh 100lbs less than I do know to be "healthy" according to that scale.
I look over weight but not anywhere near deathly obese which is where that scale has me listed. I'm a size 18/20---not giant by any means.
I don't take too much to heart with those.
I feel my best at about 185lbs as odd as that may sound but that's still listed as 60lbs over healthy.
