She wore socks to daycare until she started walking, just before her first birthday. After that, I sent her in Stride Rites so she could go out on the playground every day.

Soft soled mocs from pulling up to actually walking; then real shoes shortly after. But for daycare in the beginning when I knew she wasn't really walking outside or anything I kept her in soft soles for a while.

My kid didn't go to daycare so I did bare feet for a long time at home. She started walking at 11 months and didn't get shoes until her birthday as a gift and I didn't put them on her much because I didn't want to impede her walking. For kids that are out of the house at daycare I would definitely get something with a grippy leather type sole like robeez so they don't slip. Some days I still take off the socks from my 15 mo th old toddlers in the house. My daycare kid's parents sent him in some non-flexible shoes a few times and I just kept them off his feet the whole day.

My daughter was crawling and pulling to stand during the summer so we were outside a lot so I put her in robeez type soft soles at that age just to protect her skin. You could also try skidders, they have a few varieties but I really like these because it's just an extra grippy sock, some have a soft sole and I'd probably skip those for inside.

Both my babies went into leather soft soles when they started crawling (mainly to protect the tops of their feet when not at home).

Super! I've seen some kids at daycare with soft sole shoes & wasn't sure if that was a necessity. I like the barefoot/socked foot for now. Thanks!!!!

I didn't start shoes until she was walking outside around 12 months. We had a pair of See Kai Runs. I would just get non skid socks at that age.

When they're walking outside. For my kiddo that was right at 1 year. She started standing and cruising at 7 months, but wasn't consistently walking until her birthday. She wanted to walk constantly after that, so shoes became necessary. But she is still barefoot or in socks inside at 17 months.

Yep DS is almost 15 months and only wears shoes outside. Some kids at daycare wear shoes but it's best for them to be barefoot (or in socks)

When he started walking outside, is when we started shoes. They learn to walk best in bare feet.

Ok.....so when do babies wear shoes for a practical purpose....not just to look cute? DD is starting to stand up and I realized we might need to buy shoes at some point....haha. She is 8 months and had her first fall while standing at daycare (nothing bad at all) so I started wondering if her socks are too slippery (they have the size & brand in grippy stuff...but does that do anything?)

TIA!
