@PinkElephant: I would def measure feet. I know the sizing is kinda weird. I believe I got 18-24 months when DD1 was a size 5. I loved their soles because it is rubber so it's sturdy but it is also super flexible (you can bend the sole in half). I hope the ankle part works out!

@Happygal: Thanks! Any chance they run (very) small? She's just moving into a 3.5/4, and looks like they start at 5.

The PT we worked with was a fan of Plae shoes, although I was told having her barefoot with walking as often as possible was the best way to go!

@snowjewelz: Actually, also - sorry to be a pain but how do these run size-wise compared to any other brands your kiddos wear?

Thanks very much, everyone! You've given me some good choices to think about.

@MrsSRS: I think Converse wouldn't really provide support; but I've seen some Reebok hi-tops that are kind of an 80's -early 90's throwback that might work! :)

@tiramisu: I think we may just need to get sneakers...which kills me a little style-wise because we have all these amazing bubble rompers and sunsuits for summer, but obviously her needs come before fashion.

@Shantuck: Thank you - Carter's also seems to make a line that is a copycat of these; I may see if I can grab a pair from one place or the other to show the PT for this week.

@cabbagerose: I know it's vain, but it's the ugly factor, right?! Especially for a little girl in the summertime with all these adorable outfits - I wanted to avoid having her in hideous clunky sneakers if possible.

@Kemma: Thanks - I've heard of Bobux but never really shopped for them; I'll take a look.

@snowjewelz: Love these! They remind me a lot of Pedipeds...which could be a bad thing, though, b/c the PT vetoed ours. Seems like there is such a fine line between "supportive" and "too stiff". If I can find a pair at Rack (where it's easy to return them), I'll try!

The Soft Motion line at Stride Rite are much more flexible than their other shoes (and there are some that go higher on the ankle). Those might be worth checking out.

My son has low muscle tone but his therapists only suggested a covered sneaker. He got Nike Flex shoes when he was around 18 months and they seem to work best for him. We've tried Crocs, Natives, low top Converse and while he can walk in them, he just seems kind of floppy. I feel he has better support with the Nikes.

We had the same problem. We did end up going to a Stride rite store and having them order white hightop . Kinda of ugly but they worked . In the winter I found some lace up boots that gave great support and had a flexible sole. We also ended up getting orthotics for her shoe so had to go up a size to fit the orthotic. The orthotic went up past her ankle, we had grippers put on the bottom so when we were at home she did not have to wear shoes and could wear just the orthotics.
That seemed to help the best.

Has anyone found good "first walker" shoes for their low-tone toddler? DD is 18 months and walking with assistance, and her PT wants me to find her some "better" shoes. Criteria are a very flexible sole, but decent ankle support.

We currently wear Pediped mary janes - the PT likes the sole, but wanted something that goes slightly higher on the ankle. I brought in a pair of Surprize by Stride Rite summer shoes, and the PT still thought there could be more ankle support (and additionally found the sole a little stiff for her liking).

She didn't have any specific brand recommendations - she says she used to say Stride Rite, but now isn't really liking what she sees.

Wondering what else has worked for people....are the See Kai Run shoes any higher on the ankle? Thanks for any leads!
