My girls love wearing their Mini Melissa’s in the summer. We have bought natives in the past and they worked well too.

I love saltwater sandals, but haven’t bought the girls a pair yet! Are they easy for a 3 year old to put on herself?

@LCTBQE: I didn’t hear about Saltwaters until my son was older (like 4), and they were hard to get where we were living at the time. So my son never wore them, but DD does (I have my dad bring them from the US). I see a lot of blogs with little boys in Saltwaters though, like navy, tan and sometimes red and I think they are totally cute! Bonus, you could save them for your second babe since they hold up pretty well. You can also do mommy-babe matching, which I do with my DD and she loooves it.

@LCTBQE: I think little toddlers in crocs are adorable, they are super cheap and pretty durable! I love natives for my son but his feet were pretty chubby for a while and wouldn’t fit.
@Anagram: we got them this year. They are cute, but I don’t think they are great for water because of the two Velcro straps being the only bulk of the shoe, if that makes sense... my son can’t really put them on by himself either because he always opens the bottom strap and then it’s kind of hard to hold them on his foot and put them on at the same time, if that makes sense!

@looch: my daughter has such strong opinions too. I try to find something she will be happy with but I still find acceptable. Her sparkly silver Mary Jane sneakers for that bill- match everything, comfy and able to run and play, but sparkly.

I think I’m going to get these Plae ones to replace the sparkly shoes. She seems to like them and I randomly saw two friends’ kids wearing this exact style and both really like them. A little more than I’d like to spend but they seem like they will get a lot of wear. And they are washable.

I need to organize myself for my son's shoes. He has a ton but wears one pair of sketchers. We are at the point where he wants to wear his own thing, so I try not to fight it too much.

I think we need a pair of sneakers for "dressing up" and then we'll do new sneakers and a plain shoe for the fall. I am thinking we can do something like converse or slip on vans but my son has such strong opinions, lol.

@LCTBQE: I think your second reply was for me. I am about the antithesis of hip 😂. He’s worn navy before but he predominately wears the tan. I guess I just never thought of saltwaters as being gendered? I’ll wall you a pic then just delete it shortly.

@crazydoglady: @Foodnerd81: @LBee: I didn't realize until reading your comments that the croc sneaker style I was thinking of is really just their ripoff of Natives (FTM here), so I ordered Natives :) thanks guys.
@lamariniere: this is hip, I don't know why I wasn't thinking of saltwaters for my boy--I put him in rainbow stripe leggings and more neutral/awesome stuff from the girls section all the time. do you just get more boyish colors like red/navy?

@MamaCate: we have a pair of flip flops from ON too- they were really big last summer so she’s still wearing them for swim lessons, but she just doesn’t like them much. She picks the native knock offs or jellies every time.
It pained me to buy her nicer sneakers right before summer but she’s starting soccer this week and her old target ones are just too small. Her feet grow pretty slowly so I’m guessing they will fit for a while though!

@Foodnerd81: we buy the $3.94 full price but always on sale flip flops from old navy. I usually get two pairs to get through the summer. We have had good luck with water shoes from target for day camp. Sneakers don’t get much love until it cools off so I am not buying more until back to school.

@mediagirl: those are adorable I may need to get some!

@LCTBQE: we were discouraged from crocs by school who said they can get slippery and unstable. For that age there are stride rite sandals that are perfect. They are called Everett. I never see them on amazon but I can find them at Dillard’s near me or Nordstrom rack or apparently eBay:

@LCTBQE: my preschool doesn’t want cribs because the pea gravel in the playground gets stuck in them. Plus, I just think there are so many cuter girl shoes I’ve never wanted to try them! :)

@mediagirl: those keen are cute! She obviously can run around in them no problem? Can they go in the washer? I prefer to go cheap on sandals since we have such a short window to wear them, and spend more on shoes that can be worn at least three seasons. Though I got a deal on see kai run sandals a couple summers ago that she loved!

@mediagirl: have you tried getting the Saltwaters wet? They get so much softer after they've been wet, and they are actually made to get wet. I myself have 2 pairs and wear them swimming in rivers/oceans, and I'll wear them if it's pouring down rain so I don't ruin other shoes. With my DD's newest pair, they are the patent leather ones and were really stiff and she didn't want to wear them, but I soaked them before we went out to dinner one evening and she wore them wet through the evening, and after they dried they were fine.

@LCTBQE: yay for Saltwaters! Also, I cannot bring myself to buy Crocs, I still find them hideous! Although, they make ballet flat looking ones now, and I could potentially stomach those.

@crazydoglady: I love Natives for the kids, the only downside is that their feet get so dirty in them! We have to wash feet/shoes every day!

Anyone have any thoughts on Crocs? I was thinking of getting my 20-month-old boy a pair of Citilane Roka Crocs (the ones that look more like plastic-y Keds) but might just get the regular Crocs for when it's hot out. He's not super super steady on his feet yet--I'm afraid he'll stumble around in the regular ones.

Keen Phoebe. She's been wearing the ones from last summer and I just bought her a proper size because her toes are hanging over...🙈 I love these sandals. We have the saltwaters, too but they're so stiff, she hates them. Also just bought this pair of Plae sneakers. My kid shoe budget is officially busted.

I just pulled out a new pair of Saltwaters (that I bought months ago) for DD since she outgrew her old pair. She also needs new jelly shoes and new athletic sneakers.

What kinds of shoes are you getting your LOs for spring and summer?

My 4.5 year old has just outgrown pretty much all her shoes (which I guess happens when they are all the same size! :silly: ). I just bought her a pair of Saucony sneakers- which she is obsessed with and wears more than her previous target sneakers for sure. Her cheap Old Navy water shoes from last summer were big and i think still fit. And I just got her dressy sparkly ballet flats for my sisters wedding so those will be her dress up shoes. I want to get her a Mary Jane type sneaker since those were her most worn pair in the last size- we had the silver Surprize by Target ones that everyone had. I haven’t found a replacement that seems like good quality but a reasonable price. And I’ll probably get her another pair of super cheap jellies since she loved those too.

Poor little sis just gets the hand me downs that fit
