Basically, you are matched up with a foster child and you represent their best interest in court. It is a volunteer position for laymen only, you don't have to have a background in law or any experience with social work. Good if you have a flexible work schedule or if you are an SAHM with kids in preschool. Not so good if you work a 9-5 or don't have daytime babysitting options, because you have to go to court. Both my husband and I have seen the need for quality foster homes in our professional lives, and feel its an important challenge for us to take on. I think we have the resources (emotional, financial, skill set, etc) to be a good home for someone, and so it feels like the necessary choice. </p>
