@Mae: Thank you for the info! I'll give it the ol' college try, and totally thinking about getting a proper swaddle thingy since I suck at the wrapping part with a regular blanket :P

@BabyTsMom: Not looking forward to nap training but.. meh. I guess if all else is healthy and well then there isn't much we should complain about huh?

@MrsRcCar: Haha, that's funny. Well Nathan loses it pretty quick. Once he has it in his mind that he's fussy it builds pretty quick. Squirming, flailing arms, etc. And now that he loves being on his tummy, coupled with the gas, I think he just can never stand to be still for long.

E naps best in a carrier or on a human. So I am not much help there. When all else fails we take him for a drive. However I can get him to sleep. He will sometimes just in the morning nap in his swing but he sings us the song of his people for a while first. I leave him be unless he is completely losing it.

I have no luck getting my LO (9wks) to take a late afternoon nap unless he's in a carrier. So yep, I'm pretty much there too. And mine also knows when I sit down for just a second! I've lost a lot of my pregnancy weight this way, I'm sure! I'm praying he grows out of it but am mentally preparing myself to nap train in the future.

yeah, i started giving her a couple minutes to see if she would settle (not if she was full blown sobbing/crying, but just fussing around) and she would fall back asleep part of the time. and honestly, at that age, i still relied on the carrier for naps/getting things done!

My LO is only 2 mo and all babies are different anyways--- but this is what worked for us (so far anyways). LO used to be the same way. I used to joke that she was just trying to help me lose weight PP because she would inevitably cry every time I tried to eat AND every time I tried to sit down with her. I kept trying to put her in her swing but she'd cry and I'd pick her up. Then my husband convinced me to give it 5 minutes. I was skeptical because I felt like she was too young to CIO and at 5-6 weeks she needed to be picked up every time she cried. But I agreed to give it just 5 minutes to see. And she fell asleep. And she fell asleep the next time. I don't think it was real CIO because she wasn't/isn't young enough to understand that I don't think? But I think she is just a baby who is going to cry a minute or two when you put her down and then WILL fall asleep.

So for like 3 weeks I'd swaddle her tight and put her in the swing to nap and it worked like 75% of the time (if she was still angry after 5 min, or if she totally melted down rather than just whiny crying I'd pick her up). Then last week I started swaddling her and putting her down in her crib to sleep. Swaddle, crib, binky, rub her forehead a minute, and then leave. Same thing. About 80% of the time she fusses for 3 minutes or less (which feels SO MUCH LONGER) and then goes to sleep.

So I guess maybe I'd let your LO try crying a little bit and see how that works?

ETA: My LO is a swaddle breaking ninja so I use a halo swaddle sack.

DD was the exact same thing. She would only nap in the ergo. (If at all!) We walked a lot! All I can say is we went through it too!

@PixieStix: eh, my LO hated swaddling from the day she was born. He has to get used to sleeping with his arms out anyway. I'd let him fuss a little and see if he will go to sleep in the swing.

@wonderstruck: I will say though that we stopped swaddling some time ago, so perhaps that's part of it. He's just such a mover and a squirmer, maybe even more so with the gas so he manages to kick the blankets off eventually. Maybe I just suck at swaddling.

@wonderstruck: @swedishfish:

Yeah, we have the snugabunny swing. He slept in it a lot when he was younger but no longer does. I've tried upping the swinging motion to full speed or whatever you call it. He'll sit in it happily until he gets tired and then fusses and squirms until I take him out. Unless I'm just not waiting long enough? But I hate letting him cry, y'know?

Have you tried putting him in a swing to nap since he seems to like motion? My LO basically only napped in the swing for the first 6 months and then she just grew out of it and started napping in the crib.

Do you have a swing? That would probably do the best job of mimicking the carrier, I'd swaddle him up and put him in it. Naps were terrible for us until I got the Snugabunny swing!

My 4 month old has short 20-30 minute naps, except for when daddy takes him in the carrier in the late afternoons/evenings, and then he can sleep a good hour or more. I realize this could be just a sleep regression that is affecting the length of the naps, but what really gets me is that he only seems to want to fall asleep in the carrier. I try cradling him in my arms, and maybe it's due to the discomfort he's feeling from ongoing gas, but he won't fall asleep in my arms. Or on top of me, or cuddled on the bed. At least, not 98% of the time.

Anyone else deal with this "one way and only way" napping? Did you sleep train? Or did your kiddo grow out of it? Thanks for any info.

Edit: Forgot to add that he doesn't like when we sit still, either. He can be napping for a bit and when we sit down with him, he knows it and starts to wake up. So tiring.
