Hmm, this was something I had and did struggle with IF. I'm still not exactly sure what my problem was - basically, I had long cycles, did ovulate but not until like CD 26-28, then would get my period like 6-7 days later and it was always light and short. Thin uterine lining per the RE. He basically thought I had like a "weak" ovulation (like I was ovulating but for some hormonal reason, not early enough/strong enough? IDK).

I had to go on Clomid and progesterone suppositories, then did a trigger shot and IUI to get pregnant, and it worked the first time.

Interestingly, my son is 18 months old now and I did not have a period until he was about 12 months old (BFing). Since it came back, it has been very regular (always 27-29 days), I ovulate in the 13-14 day range with symptoms I never had while TTC him (i.e. TONS of egg white mucus, like it's super gross), and my period are longer and heavier.
We're not TTC right now, but I wonder if I would get pregnant easier now than before.

The other difference is that I was underweight while TTC and now I am about 10 lbs heavier than I was when TTC my son - maybe that has made a difference.

@Mrs. Starfish: hmm. yeah it's not light at all. I have a heavier than usual first day of bleeding. Not to sound gross, but it's like it all comes out on day 1 clots and all, day 2 is kinda normal and by the end of that day its like done.

@pachamama: this is interesting to me because I've been under a good amount of stress. also, I'm really one of those if it's "meant to be" people and it's making me aggravated- adding to the drama in my head lol

@bhbee: 17th day on a 25 day cycle seems like too short of a luteal phase to me. I was hoping this month, even if i wasn't pregnant that my cycle was a little longer but nope.

thanks ladies for your insights! I appreciate it!

I mostly have about 2 days of real bleeding - maybe 1 heavy - and often a fair amount of light spotting. But it hasn't seemed to make a huge difference in getting pregnant, I had it when I had more fertility issues, but also now when I had no problem. I think the shorter cycles could be a bigger issue, but hopefully with time it will improve to whatever your normal is. 25 days seems short if you ovulate on cd17.

@Mamas2k13: I was in a very similar pattern. I found that my subconscious stress from TTC was shortening my period. I also spotted a little before and after my period. I had put an enormous amount of pressure on myself to get pregnant quickly and it didn't work out and deep down I was very anxious. I eventually got pregnant naturally after 13 cycles and have a perfect 14 month old now!

I had major uterine lining issues and it was the main reason the doctors gave me for my 3 years of infertility. I don't think you need to worry - my periods were LIGHT, LIGHT, LIGHT. I mean, I never had to use anything beyond a panty liner!

Also, the cycle that I finally did get pregnant was closely monitored and the lining was so thin that they claimed there was no way I could become pregnant. I did.

After I became pregnant on that lining, all of those same docs told me that they can't figure out for certain the importance of lining to becoming pregnant. My point here is to give you reassurance, not worry. If you have any other questions on lining, don't hesitate - I've got way too much knowledge on the topic! :silly:

It took me a year of being off BC for my cycles to be "normal" and consistent. I wasn't TTC in that year, so I can't say if I could/would have gotten pregnant but I think its normal to have inconsistent cycles post BC.

@Mamas2k13: with an RE, who measured ovulation and lining thickness to see if there are any issues preventing conception (there weren't! we got pregnant that cycle). But i've always had shorter periods and no issues getting pregnant the first time.

@Banana330: sorry, but what do you mean by monitored cycle? I got pregnant with my son (who's 3) when I missed a few pills, so I wasn't really expecting any weird cycles or anything, it's all confusing to me lol.

It took me 6 months after coming off BC to get pregnant. I've always had short periods (2-3days) and had a monitored cycle for my current pregnancy, my lining was definitely thick enough. It could just be your body regulating. Acupuncture might be able to help.

We've been TTC for around 5 months. I got off BC in November, and I believe I had a chemical pregnancy that month. December was a normal period for me (29 day cycle, 4/5 of actual period). January it was only 26 days, 2 days of bleeding. February was a 25 day cycle but more like 4 days of bleeding. and now March was 26 days again but 2 days of bleeding. As far as the 2 days, it's not light the first day and a half, it's normal flow (sorry tmi for all of this). I chart and use OPK so as far as those two things, I'm ovulating on the 17th day- which is normal for me in a regular cycle. I've never had this before even off birth control. It's making me thick that I'm not building up enough uterine lining for a pregnancy.. any ideas??
