@MamaG: yeah, on Monday I'm going to check with HR again. The first time I asked they basically said STD was the maternity leave, and they didn't say anything about doctor note stipulations. Or FMLA running concurrently.

I'm in PA too.

My std has a 2 week waiting period at 0%, then it's another 4 weeks at 60% (if you don't buy supplemental insurance.) I've paid $17/mo to boost my std to 80% pay.

My policy only gives 6 weeks total whether you have a c section or a vaginal delivery.

ETA: my employer is too small to qualify for FMLA, but thy do give me 2 weeks at full pay for maternity leave and are letting me take 3 weeks unpaid leave instead of using up all of my pto.

I live in PA - but I've only figured out what my company covers for STD.

Our STD program is 100% weeks 1-3 (I also have to take 5 days PTO for the first week - the "waiting period") and then 70% thereafter--probably weeks 4-6 or 4-8, depending on how labor goes.

This is all concurrent with FMLA. I can also start STD two weeks before my due date, but I am hoping to save that for after the baby is born if I feel up to working straight up to 40 weeks.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I'd recommend clarifying. It sounds to me like that is how the full STD program works but like another person suggested, you typically only get paid until you are released from medical care (typically 6-8 weeks).

My STD had a two week waiting period. My company requires me to utilize all sick and vacation time FIRST. Since I had accumulated 10 weeks of time I wasn't able to collect any STD. It's a really crappy setup to say the least.

@JoJoGirl: I think mine is the same roughly. I have to use 5 days of PTO to jump start the STD, then it's something like 60% for 6 or 8 weeks (vag or c section) then FMLA unpaid for up to about 12 weeks. But policy is to go out 2 weeks before your due date, so I think I get paid that STD for the time before the baby is born and THEN 6 -8 weeks after-- so if the baby was 2 weeks late, I'd get paid an extra 3 weeks plus the 6 or 8,

That's my understanding from my coworker-- I haven't talked to HR yet.

I live in FL, but my benefits are through my company. STD is 55% for 6 weeks for birth. My company has a benefit that covers my full salary depending on how long you've worked there. For me, that's 6 weeks paid, then I have to take my vacation and sick time before I can take unpaid leave. So my 12 weeks maternity leave is essentially all paid, but I'll have no paid time off for the rest of the year. :(

I live in Colorado.

I had a one week waiting period, then STD kicked in for six weeks at 60%. FMLA runs concurrently so the next six weeks were unpaid for a total of 12 weeks. My company also let's you purchase disability insurance which would have upped my payout to 80% of my salary but I didn't opt for it. I used my PTO to cover the difference it and was able to cover everything except the last 4 weeks which were no pay.

Holy crap I wish that's what we have!!!!

I'm in MA but its different at each company. We get:

1 week extended illness leave (accrues with time and can only be taken with STD during the week grace period): 100%
6 weeks at 50% or 8 for csection

That's it. The rest of FMLA-protected time is unpaid. I can use PTO but our company is crazy stingy with that too so ill only have about a week.

In Hawaii, we have 58% of your salary up to a maximum of $524 a week with a 1-week waiting period. You get 6 weeks for vaginal or 8 weeks for cesarean. FMLA is 6 months max unpaid after you've exhausted all your PTO.

@Smurfette: STD can be longer than the 6/8 weeks if your doctor deems it medically necessary, perhaps complications with stitches healing or something.

Since I have been there over 3 years, I get 100% pay for 6 weeks(8 weeks if have csection) for STD. FMLA runs concurrently so then I can take another 6 weeks unpaid. I do have to use all my vacation time, so will be 3 weeks vacation and then 3 weeks no pay.

My understanding is STD is only paid till the doctor clears you to go back to work. Did you check with your work on that?

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Nope. 12 weeks max at 55% of your average pay from the last 17 months employed. I had a vag so I have 6 weeks SDI and may choose to take the bonding time throughout the year.

Ca it's 55% I think with a max cap if $1000 per week. 6 weeks for vaginal and 8 for cesarean. With paid family leave you get an additional 6 weeks of 55% pay. So total of 12-14 weeks of disability.

Mine is 60% pay for 6 weeks, but it runs concurrently with my FMLA, so I can still only take 12 weeks total, just 6 weeks of it will be paid with STD and the other 6 weeks will be unpaid.

I live in FL.

1 wk- PTO/ 100% pay
5 wks- 100% pay
11 wks- 85% pay
9 wks- 70%

That's 26 weeks for maternity leave if we can manage reduced income for a few months!

If you HAVE TO use STD for Maternity Leave, please share your state and benefit structure. Do you plan on using FMLA (0% pay) to extend your maternity?

EDIT: The reduced pay percentages may be a company thing. When I looked it up on our HR site I did not have to put which state I am located in.
