I would do after, but just bc my nephew had his 6 month shots 2 days before we went to NYC for a weekend- and he. Cried. The. Entire. Trip. Literally, did not stop crying for more than 15 minutes the entire weekend.

@belugabean I'm so sorry to hear about your aunt. Neither of my LOs had significantly different reaction to their one year old shots, at least not enough for me to remember that they were that different. However, mine have never really had any reaction to any shots.

@PinkElephant: Thank you. We'd be gone about 6 days total and the way things are looking, we'll either leave before the shots anyway or leave within a day or two of the shots.

@Dandelion: Her four month shots were the only ones where she really had a fever or anything. Other than that, she's usually just sleepy. I've just heard that the one year shots are worse than the others. I don't think she's ever really been cranky though.

I'm sorry about your aunt.

I think it depends to some extent on the shots she's having. I believe the typical time frame for reaction to the MMR vaccine is 7-10 days, so if you're thinking it's likely you'd travel in the day or two after the appointment, you might be back before any side effects are showing.

My daughter just had her 1-year appointment, where she was vaccinated for Hep A, MMR, and Chicken Pox. She did react to these vaccines a bit more than others, but it has been manageable - low fevers, rash, and crankiness. But she's also teething so it's hard to pin her symptoms on the vaccines alone.

How did she react to her other shots? If she gets sleepy, it might be ok, cause then she'll sleep the whole way. If she's cranky, it might not be a good idea. Driving that far wit a cranky baby will just add to your stress.

So LO is scheduled to have her one year appointment this upcoming Friday. I've also posted that my aunt is in the final stages of her cancer and expected to go soon. She was given two weeks to live and Tuesday will finish those two weeks. I hate to think about little logistical things but I'm trying to make decisions before I'm emotional and can't think them through.

There's a chance we'll have to leave Friday to go to Michigan for the funeral (we're in NC). If we have to leave earlier, obviously, there's no issue. My brother said he's okay with LO going to her appointment and then leaving to start our trip. Is this a good idea though with a five to six day trip? I know some kids have worse reactions to their one year shots than others. If I have to reschedule, we have to make the appointment with someone other than the main doctor she's been seeing this first year (who we love). So that's my hesitation. But I don't want her to feel bad our entire trip.

What would you do?
