Eeek! This happened to me. I had recently moved, so I went to a new dentist in my new town and they messed up a filling. I went back and they filed it down some more. It kept hurting, so they filed it down more. It still kept hurting then they said there was nothing else they could do and left it at that. They said it could take up to a month to get better!

Well a month later I could still not even put the lightest pressure on my tooth. I called my dentist back in my hometown and drove and hour and a half back home to get it looked at. I needed a root canal and a crown to fix it. Turns out the new dentist cracked my whole tooth when doing the filling!!

I ended up filing a claim against the new dentist through my insurance so that I didn't have to pay anything for the work they had done. The insurance also covered my whole root canal too. I had to pay about $200 on the crown because my insurance maxed out. Luckily, I have a high dental insurance ($4,000).

@Bao: I would demand they fix it.. If not go somewhere else. There was no way I could deal with the pain for another week. It hurt so bad!

@LaineysMom: someone told me this is what they thought it was, I'm upset they didn't try and help me. Maybe I need a new dentist or need to demand they fix it.

@Bao: this happened to me before.. I went to a new dentist and he told me the other guy didn't file it down correctly so whenever I chewed the filling would hit a nerve. The new dentist filed it down in less than 5 minutes and all the pain went away.

@Jennimac: they said it was nothing and it would go away...what?! So I figured I'd wait a week and see how it goes. It still hurts when I bite certain things though.

@Mrs. Blue: ahhhh no! That's scary....I hope that's not it. Considering this is my first ever filling that would not be a good first experience.

I hate to be the bearer of potentially bad news, but that sounds like what happened with one of mine. It kept hurting, not an ache but a sharp pain, and I thought they just screwed something up because I had used a new dentist. Turns out, I had to have a root canal to fix it. I really, really hope yours is just some residual ache, but I would definitely go back and get it checked out!

@Bao: me too!!!! I thought my root canal failed, but I realized that it only bothers me (and by bother, it just makes me aware of it-no pain) when it's cloudy and low pressure outside. So, now I try to freak out about it. :)

I find that my fillings ache a little depending on the weather. I have very sensitive teeth and my fillings are usually a medium to large size. Is it painful when you bite on it? Or just different?

I got my first filling about 2 weeks ago, all was fine and I didn't feel a thing but then about 10 days ago when I would chew, it would feel like I was biting on foil. I'm going to guess this isn't normal, but wanted to ask you guys if you have ever experienced this before.
