Yes. We had dd room in with us and I couldn't pick her up without him. On the third night he went home to rest and my mom stayed with me. But yes, I absolutely could not have done it without him.

I couldn't have imagined not having DH with me if I have another baby. Part of why I don't want to have another is because I don't want us both to be away from LO so many days lol. But yes, if I was you I would at least have someone there if you don't have DH.

I had DH there for the first night, but not the second. It was fab to have him there but honestly, I had baby in the bed with me so I only called the nurses for help with diapers and latching - DH was more moral support than practical. The next night I was fine by myself as I was walking by then. It would be nice to have your DH there but I think you'd be okay without him too.

Thanks all for your input. I think I will have DH stay the first night and my mom the 2nd. We'll see how it goes if I need to stay longer than that.

I think he should stay with you! But if not, maybe he can stay for the first part of the night and then leave in the am in time to be home with your toddler, (assuming you live relatively close to the hospital)? It's not like it would be a big deal for him to "wake up" early in the hospital...you guys will both be up every two hours all night :-(
Personally, I was in a lot of pain for the first 24-48 hours. I did much better after that, but it's hard to be in the hospital! Try to keep DH with you if you can!

Yes, I think he should stay with you! Can you get someone else to stay at home with your other child during that time? I remember when my sister was born (I was 2) my parents had a close family friend stay with me. They talked to me a lot about it in advance, so I knew what to expect. One morning I woke up, and my parents were gone at the hospital, but I knew exactly what was happening b/c they prepared me for it.

If you want DH to stay home with LO, is there another friend or family member who can stay with you? Even with a vaginal delivery, I wasn't up to caring for even one of my babies alone.

I needed someone there the 1st night, but would have been fine the 2nd and 3rd night by myself. My husband stayed home on the 3rd because the hospital bed sucked and I wanted him well rested for our home coming.

For sure the first 2 nights, I was in for 4 nights and he stayed the whole time, but our LO was also in the NICU so he wanted to be close. It was too hard getting in and out of bed on my own and he was able to help me with water, ice, bathroom, ect when I needed it.

Yes! I sent DH home for the first two nights b/c DS was in the NICU, but once he was out for the 3rd night, I needed him there. I couldn't get up easily and the nurses weren't always there when called right away. So if possible, i would say yes!

Heck yes! I was sore as f!ck the first few nights and though I loved my nurses it was comforting to have DH around. If not DH can you have another family member stay with you?

Absolutely yes. If not DH, a family member or trusted friend. I dont know what I would have done without DH there with me. He stayed with me from the time I went in for my induction until I went home 4 days later. You take the simplest tasks for granted like going to the bathroom and trying to pull up your underwear or getting out of bed and standing up. Good luck and wishing you an easy and speedy recovery!

I'm obviously in the minority but I think it would be fine without him there. My nurses were awesome and Did all the helping me to the shower, bringing me water, etc. to the point I sort of wondered if DH should just go home and get some rest. I kept LO in the room with me the entire stay as well and they had on my level right next to me so I could pick him up and place him down without help. At night, DH is a heavy sleeper and was pretty useless ;)

I definitely needed DH after my c-section for the first day and night. I probably could have done without by the second, but it was still helpful to have him there. Maybe a close friend or family member can stay with you if you think DH is more needed by your toddler at home?

With LO#2 I had a csection and worried about LO#1's schedule too. For the first night and the night before discharge DH stayed with me the other nights I had my good friend there to help me. Something to consider: when your toddler wakes up and DH isn't there, someone else is will he/she freak out? My LO freaked (something I didn't think would happen)

Yes if not your DH, someone else.
When I called, nurses didnt always respond and I needed someone to get me ice, help me with my panties in the bathroom etc.
Absolutely the first night. Ideally the second as well.
I was in for four night and could ave gone without him after the second two - maybe.

I will be having a C-section in less than two weeks because the baby is breech. (I had an unsuccessful ECV, baby is pretty much stuck in position). This is my second baby; with my first which was a vaginal birth, I only stayed in the hospital one night (not counting the labor before birth) and DH stayed. This time we have a toddler and I want to keep his routine as normal as possible, so it would be good for DH to be home when he wakes up. However, I remember how tiring it was overnight in the hospital having people come in randomly during the night and needing to feed the baby so often, and I fear it will be even harder after a C with the pain and not being able to get out of bed by myself. There is no nursery in my hospital so the baby stays in the room. If you had a C, did you feel your DH absolutely had to stay overnight with you? Or can the nurses help you enough?
