I don't think I'd personally use a helmet with this because in our case, it would replace our stroller and I wouldn't be able to deal with putting a helmet on my kids every single time we left the house. DD had a similar trike (that I pushed the whole time). She's associated bike riding with helmets. She normally tries to weasel her way out of doing things (like wearing a jacket and mittens, for instance), but she has never argued about a helmet. We use it (of course) for the bike seat and surprisingly since he won't wear any hat, he likes it! We don't really use the ride on trike that much.
