@CatchAFallingStar: I have a history of loss, and twice there were issues with an early heartbeat. So at this point I always delay the first ultrasound appointment until after 7 weeks because there is less ambiguity.

I saw DS1's at 6+3 and DD's at 6 weeks exactly (I didn't go in until after 7 weeks with DS2). I think you have a pretty good chance of seeing the heartbeat, just try not to stay calm if you don't.

Thanks, ladies! I guess I'll keep the appointment. I'll let you know if I see the heartbeat next week. 😀

I think you have about a 70% chance of seeing it. So I'd go. But I'm not much of a waiter. So you know yourself better.

Would you ladies recommend asking for a later date or just going in and trying to be prepared not to see it?

I saw my first LO at 6w1d. My second I saw at 6w?days (can't remember) but it was still around 100bpm, so pretty slow. It made me a little nervous. But it was fine by the next US.

No, I would not expect to see/hear anything until after 7 weeks.
ETA: it is possible but I would not fully expect to see it, is what I meant.

It should be there but also know that if you have a tilted uterus it will be really hard to find. At 6 exactly we were told there wasn't even enough tissue for it to be viable and at 6+4 he initially was thinking that what he saw confirmed his initial suspicion. He really had to "dig" to find it. For what it's worth though the ultrasound tech was out so it was my ob doing the scan.

I think you will be able to see something but don't freak out if they can't get the doppler on it. I went in at 5 weeks 6 days, and I was measuring 6 weeks, and the doctor could see a heat beat but it was too small to measure or hear, so now I have to go back tomorrow for a f/u ultrasound. I originally was going to go in at what would have been 6 weeks 4 days, but they moved me to an earlier date because the doctor was going to be out of town that week and he wanted to do the initial u/s, otherwise I would have waited a little later.

I'm considering asking if I can reschedule it to the following week to make sure it's not too early to see it. I just know I will freak out if we don't see it.

With DS, at my 7w appointment they couldn't find anything except the sac. I was devastated after having been through two prior losses. At our follow up appointment two weeks later, he was measuring right on track at 9 weeks. Don't be alarmed if you don't see a HB at 6+3. It is early!

My first ultrasound is next Friday, the 7th. At 6w3d, do you think I'll see a heartbeat with transvaginal ultrasound? I'm so excited/nervous.
