Nap extensions have never worked for me. Once LO sees me, he's up and not going back down.

The fact that your LO is very cranky before his last nap indicates to me that he may be overtired by that point. At around 3 months, my LO's maximum awake times between naps were about 1.5 hours. Have you tried shortening his awake times to see if his naps would lengthen?

But come to think of it, 45 minute naps are not unusual at that age either. Does your LO wake up from the 45 minute naps cranky or happy? If happy then he's had enough sleep. If cranky then I would try shortening his awake time to see if he will nap better and be better rested.

Right now your LO is getting about 15 hours of total sleep over a 24h period. The average total sleep time for a 3 month old is 15.5-18h so your LO could probably nap a bit longer during the day without affecting night sleep too much.

I wouldn't try to extend it, unless you're going in there the second he stirs. Maddox was sleeping like that at night at the same age and moved to two naps (either 45m or 90m) and a 15-20 min cat nap about an hour before bed right around 12-14w. A week shy of 4 months the 4m sleep regression hit and his naps went to 20 mins long, tops. Night sleep was unaffected, thank goodness. I just followed sleepy cues and put him down for a nap when he rubbed his eyes or yawned.

Baby sleep cycles are in 45 min increments, so you might try waiting 5 mins to go in after that first nap to see if he falls back to sleep. I can count on one hand how long that's happened for us in 13 months though.

What time is bedtime? You might be able to start pushing it up in 15 min increments. He should still sleep to the same time in the morning. However, I wouldn't expect a 2 nap a day schedule until 6m though (not that you asked...)

LO sleeps 12h a night with one short wake at the 9h mark.
I love the fact that I get nighttime sleep and usually wouldn't push for a nap other than LO gets super cranky without one. He is 14w old.
His first nap is 45m
2nd nap 45m
And 3rd nap (by now he's super cranky) is 1.5h
All are about 2.5h apart

Should I try to extend the first nap? What will likely happen to the other naps if I do so?
Any advice or experience is appreciated!
