@FriedBabyMama: just turned 4 months and yea sleep regression BIG time. Along with teething I'm 85% sure. So I really don't think now is a good time to sleep train even if I wanted.

Just gonna roll with the punches....

Our now 4 yr old, if you put him to bed early, wakes up later. For instance last night went to bed at 7:30pm and woke up at 8am. Three nights ago we were at a friends house late. He went to bed at 10pm and woke up at 6am. This is how it always goes and then he is a terror.

I am trying to get the baby into a sleep schedule. I thought we had one, had been working for 3 weeks, but of course as soon as I posted it on hb how happy I was, the crap has hit the fan!

He has been falling asleep around 8pm, waking up at 9pm and then stays up until 11pm. On top of that he is getting up every 2 hours again!!! Going to try to put him to bed tonight at 7pm.

How old is your LO? There's a big sleep regression around 4 months (more info on that on the blog AskMoxie), so that might be impacting everything. I am also reading HSH,HC like @CocoBee, and I would also suggest starting the bedtime routine earlier, even though it seems counter-intuitive.

We've always done better with an earlier bedtime. Everytime we have tried a later bedtime in hopes that LO will sleep in, he always wakes up at the same time or earlier, so an earlier bedtime means more overnight sleep which is ideal.

We have never had problems with him fighting bedtime though...he's always gone to sleep when we put him down (sleepy cues or not). We use wake times to figure out when to put him to bed depending on when the last nap ends,

My son sleeps better with a later bedtime, he goes against every textbook suggestion to get children to sleep longer.

I did try moving the bedtime earlier, but it resulted in night wakings.

Both me and @cvbee have been reading Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child and his #1 go -to suggestion is to make bedtime earlier!! and it sounds like that's what she needs. Contrary to popular belief,, and logic, a child who stays up later isn't going to sleep longer/later. A child who goes to bed earlier, will sleep longer.

This is what the book says and there are many testimonial stories. I haven't tried it, but I'm going to try a half-hour earlier bedtime tonight because DS regressed last night and was up at 1, 4, 6, 7 and then 8. It was rough and he hasn't had a night that bad in a month.

Yes, I said delay!

When M first started daycare she started showing sleepy cues earlier than usual so that she wanted a bath by 6:30pm and nursing at 7pm then in crib by 8pm. A week in she moved it up herself to bath time by 6:00pm and in crib by 730pm at the latest. Both only taking an hour to go into her crib.

Last couple nights (say 5) along with waking up like crazy often it is taking 1.5-2hrs to get her down after 2-3 tries.

She is still exhibiting -imo- the same sleepy cues at the same times. But because it's taking so long she's not in her crib till about 8/8:30pm now.

But. Should I delay her bath time even though she's exhibiting sleepy cues at same time???
