You mentioned you still nurse her back to sleep? I would start there and wean her from that. Rock to sleep in the room and then in the crib for the night. We had a rule that once she was in bed, she didn't get out (aka we didn't pick her up, but we would stay with her). I knew that if I picked her up, she would claw me.

From there, the weaning wasn't so hard.

I wouldn't do completely cold turkey, but maybe cut out a session every 4-5 days until you are done? We decided to stop BF around 12 months and were done at 13 months. As I weaned I cut out all feeds but sleep ones, then cut out naps, then cut out morning feeds and finished weaning by cutting out bedtime feeds.

@Mrsbells: How did she respond? Did she protest at all? My friend's daughter clawed at her chest for 2 weeks!!

@Rubies: I kid you not, that's exactly how she looks. I find the nursing situation has gotten worse since she hasn't been sleeping well, and the only way for me to get her to go back to sleep is by nursing her. Now that DH is back, i'm thinking of having him do everything. Seriously, i cry in pain when she nurses the injured side and i want to wait until it's actually healed. A friend said i should just continue not giving it to her, even after i'm better.

I wouldn't quit cold turkey just b/c that still can run risk of plugged ducts for you (I just got one after 16 mths of nursing)... maybe drop a session at a time & then give yourself atleast a few days to adjust.

P has started wanting to nurse more too, but I have plans to tandem nurse so I'm still okay with it.

I laughed a little at the thought of your LO eyeing your chest..."Boobies...I want boobies." Sorry.

Okay, my two cents: I weaned LO completely by 14 months only because it was getting too hard in terms of getting ready for work and daycare in time to be out the door. It was "easy" for me to wean because she was nursing in the morning and at bedtime mainly for comfort and habit.

Can you wean her from one nursing session? Then next week wean her from the second session?

I weaned around 14 months and I just reduced how much I gave her. I gradually cut out day nursing and then did the same at night.

:( LO is wanting it more now than ever before. She literally freaks out and cries for it whereas she never did before! It's like she knows the end is near...

And we are SUPER mommy clingy right now so that probably doesn't help!

LO is 16 months old, and i still nurse her 2x a day. 3x a day when on vacation/weekends.

For two weeks she's been really aggressive with one boob, to the point that it's cracked and bleeding (i thought we were past the newborn nursing problems!!). I've reached my limit!! Now that DH is back from his trip, i've been making him put her down for all her naps/bedtime, and get her in the mornings.

Should i continue cutting her off? When i see her eyeing my chest i distract her but i'm afraid i'll give in if she seems to really want it!
