@grizz: did your LO ever end up taking the paci? I'm tired I my poor nips being a pacifier but C still hates them. She'll suck on a pinky for a long time though.

@lemondrop: I have the book, so I will look for that!

@BananaPancakes: Yes, that's definitely the bright side! My mom was scared she wouldn't be able to break my sister of it before kindergarten. She hid them everywhere!

@wheres_c: We could definitely do that! He rubs his hand back and forth on my shirt while he nurses so that could be perfect.

We tried every paci out there, and just finally gave up around 3 months. It just wasnt going to happen. The closest we got to him taking it was the rubber Natursutten ones. But it's been nice not having to break him using one, at least.

Paci's were never a hit with mine, but for the rare times he used one, Nuk did the trick. I also found that he needed a paci "bootcamp." He totally didn't get the concept of working with a paci, so I had to tug a little while he was sucking on it to get him used to keeping it in his mouth. I can't remember where I read about teaching them about the paci, maybe Happiest Baby on the Block?

@grizz: My LO is 3m and hates pacis. She sometimes will take the Wubbanub for a few minutes but only in the car. Today she did take a Nuk for a couple of minutes. I gave her a lovey when she was 2m and she sucks on that sometimes until she falls asleep...she also likes sucking on A&A blankies. It took a couple of weeks to break the habit of using me as a paci. I still nurse to sleep at night only and if she doesn't unlatch herself, I can tell when she's. not really nursing and will unlatch her.

@grizz: Perhaps try the A&A security blanket as a lovey?
I gave one to B early on, and he would rub that against him to fall asleep, and I would take it away after he fell asleep.

@Weagle: @Mrs. Yoyo: I'm running to Target later so I will pick up a pack of Nuks!

I wish he was old enough for a lovey. He loves to rub my shirt between his fingers as he falls asleep.

My son wouldn't take one for awhile. When he was a newborn the soothies worked best. I would have to hold it in with my finger in the hole until he fell asleep. For awhile he wouldn't take them at all. We just kept trying. Then around 3-4 months he just started taking them. Now he has one in his mouth almost all the time. It should be fun when we have to wean him off of them.

You could also try Nuk. LO only took one occasionally for a few weeks, and it never helped to soothe her to sleep.

We kind of forced it on LO. She would fuss and cry so we swaddled, rocked and held the pacifier in her mouth. It almost always helped her fall asleep and then it would fall out and she would get upset lol. Make up your mind child!

That's tough. My usual advice would be to try the gumdrop or soothie which are the same except the base (although dd will only take soothies, not gumdrops.)

I also do it right after dd is done with a bottle (at bedtime) when she's mostly sucking just to suck. Almost 11 months in and that kid still loves to suck on something...teethers, pacis, anything. :P

@Cara M. 17: Ugh whyyyy wouldn't they offer the best ones in stores?!

No experience here but there's also born free and the gum drop ones. Also our hospital has ones not available in stores that many babies like.

My LO never took one consistently either and I just gave up trying, but he also didn't nurse to sleep so it wasn't a huge loss. He liked the natursutten natural rubber ones best.

@aprk: He spits it out then fusses at me like I've done something bad to him with every paci but the Wubbanub. He will sometimes tolerate that one for a minute, maybe two.

Both LCs I go to and our pediatrician want me to get C to take a pacifier because he likes to comfort suck incessantly, and we're to the point where he won't fall asleep without nursing, and I've got really torn up nipples. I mostly want him to find some kind of comfort method to sleep before I go back to work so he can nap for the sitter.

I've tried Soothies, Tommie Tippee, Avent, Wubbanubs, and MAM pacifiers. Are there any others out there? Should I just keep offering the ones I've got? He nurses with a nipple shield and takes a bottle like a champ, so I'm confused why the paci gets no love :)
