I would move her if I thought it was a better fit. I don't think moving again in 8-12 months is too frequent. At least I hope not.

My LO has been at her daycare 4 months and we're moving. She'll be with grandmas for one month and then she'll be at the only daycare we could find for three months. They won't have an opening come March so then we'll need to find something else. So she'll be 4 months, 1 month, 3 months, ????.

The moms I know in IRL change daycares pretty frequently. Just think of how many times Bees are advised to change daycares in response to an issue.

Does closer to your work mean farther from home? I cannot imagine commuting with my LO so her daycare has to be within 10 minutes or so of home. That would be my deal breaker.

The biting thing would REALLY annoy me, but I don't have experience or a solution/compromise for you on addressing this with the current daycare. The other thing that bothers you though are the snacks, so could you see about bringing in your own more nutritious options?
I know kids will want what the others have, but maybe she will at least get some of the snack you send along with less of the junky stuff?

@BabyBoecksMom: The snacks is a pain in the butt I know, but mangeable. Our school does healthy food most of the time but a couple times a week the afternoon snack is something I'm not cool with (vanilla wafers, scooby snacks, etc) so we decided it would be too confusing to pick and choose which days she does school snacks. So we just have them always give school lunch, but we pack our own morning and afternoon snacks every day. It's a lot of work, but it's worth it. But the biting is much more concerning. I would push the director harder (and reach out to the owner if you need to). Since they have webcams they should be able to identify exactly what happened. If she is consistently being bitten by the same child that's a really issue.

@Mamaof2: This is actually a large, church-based daycare (over 350 kids). I mean, I could bring her snacks, but would she really eat carrots if everyone around her is eating Cheetos? haha

As for the biting, the teachers do put the other kid in timeout and tell them not to bite, but .... I don't know... I feel like more should be done, especially since it's happening so frequently.

I would stay - I also think its too many moves for a LO.

The cons of the current school don't seem to bad to me

Don't provide lunch
---------------I actually skipped a DCP we looked cuz they provided lunch - I much prefer to pack for my kids

Now make the parents provide the cots for the child to sleep on (they say they financially can't cover the cost, even though they have until this point)
-----------------My DCP doesn't provide them -I bought super cute ones from PBK and love them!

No nutritious snacks (meaning, no fruit or veggies - usually consisting of bags of chips, rice krispies treats, pudding or poptarts)
----------------------eh ok I wouldn't like this at all - I assume this is an In home DCP?

No policy for biting (DD has had 5 significant bites in the past 3 months, and all the director said was "that's what kids do at this age")
----------------------- There must be some kind of recourse - telling the child "no we don't bite" at least, right??

@Smurfette: @MamaMoose: That's exactly where I'm torn. But I'm so tired of her getting such crappy, junk food snacks, and getting bit all the time. ... but am I so tired of it that I want to move her for just 8-12months?

I'm so torn. If you were moving permanently I would suggest going to the new day care. But I think it might be tough on her to have her transition now and then transition again next fall.

I'll try to make this short.

We're on the wait list for a great daycare/preschool for DD, but the earliest she can get is in next Fall. In the meantime, I am growing increasingly more annoyed with her current daycare. I have an option to move her to another daycare until the one we really want opens up, but I can't seem to pull the trigger.

Current daycare:
Pros:
- Webcam (so I can watch her and not feel like I'm missing out on what she's doing)
- Teachers that love her
- Teach Spanish, colors, numbers, and make crafts
- HUGE indoor play area, and a smaller, covered area outside
- Church-based
- large parking lot = very little traffic at pick-ups/drop-offs

Cons:
- Don't provide lunch
- Now make the parents provide the cots for the child to sleep on (they say they financially can't cover the cost, even though they have until this point)
- No nutritious snacks (meaning, no fruit or veggies - usually consisting of bags of chips, rice krispies treats, pudding or poptarts)
- No policy for biting (DD has had 5 significant bites in the past 3 months, and all the director said was "that's what kids do at this age")

Temporary daycare:
Pros:
- Much closer to my work and her pediatrician (right down the street vs 20 min away)
- Nutritious snacks
- Provide lunch and breakfast
- Large classrooms
- better teacher/student ratio

Cons:
- Have to bring our own crib sheets (for DD#2)
- Have to take DD's nap mat home every day (not a deal breaker, but certainly annoying to carry it to and from the car each day)
- No webcams :-(
- Very small parking lot (lots of traffic?)
