Definitely both. It's what got me a BFP, I'm certain. I second what Pui said. Doing both gives you the most information.

For me, I gave up on OPKs and just temped because I never saw a positive on the OPKs. I got my O confirmation with temping though, which as @Pui: said, is the only true way to confirm.

OPKs can be a little unreliable, as they do not exactly pin point when you O. Only temping will reliably show you when O happened. That said, lots of people have success with OPKs alone.

@Gigi2: There is (almost) nothing too personal to ask when it comes to TTC  We BD EOD starting around CD10. I didn't O till CD23 so it was a tough stretch b/c we usually don't BD that much, but I for sure was motivated to haha! I think among all the tactics, BD EOD or even ED is your best bet. Knowing when you O just makes it a little easier so you know when to concentrate your efforts!

@Gigi2: Definitely OPKs. Be sure to get the digital, smiley face ones. The other ones are so difficult to read.

@marym: yes - read taking charge of your fertility last year to get ready! It's very helpful and was good for me being aware of stuff with CM, etc. Definitely need more "personal info" as to what's going on with my body I think, though. Would really like to be more certain I'm actually ovulating and that things are working haha

@snowjewelz: thanks! Hopefully OPKs will help me get a BFP too. And big congratulations to you!!!!! Not to be overly personal, but did you shoot for EOD or ED BD??

If you want to maximize your chances, do both! My cycles were irregular post BC, and I couldn't really confirm when O was just by temping. Then I added in OPKs and got a BFP!

I used generic Target brand OPKs.

Also, BD lots!!

@marym: thanks so much! This is really helpful. It sounds like I should try to do both. We've been TTC for 3 months and have been trying to be kind of "light" about it, but now I'm definitely craving more information if possible.

I would do both! OPKs can help you predict when you're about to ovulate and then temping will help confirm it (this will be especially useful if you have long cycles and your LH surges more than once).

If you're wanting to conceive next month, I'd do OPKs before temping.

But if you want to know the most about your cycle, I'd do both.

Temping won't help you TTC until you've done it for a few months because your temp doesn't spike until AFTER you ovulate. But, if you end up having difficulties conceiving it can shed a lot of light on why.

OPKs will indicate when you're about to ovulate, but you won't know for sure if you did unless you temp.

Doing both can be a little overwhelming though, so I'd consider how "invested" you are in wanting to conceive this particular month and then go from there.

As for OPK brands, I got the generic strips from CVS

So this month is about to come to a close (AF due 4/10) and I'm thinking I will be out. We barely BD'd this month (thanks to moving!) and I tested this morning and was negative. Also no symptoms whatsoever. In the interest of kicking off next month a little more enthusiastically, I want to up my game and add either temping or opk's to be more sure of my O date (til now just been tracking CM). What should I try first? Or should I go all in and try both? If OPK, do you all have a brand that you prefer to use? Thanks so much!
