Have you tried any baby sign? Help, more, all done, milk, and eat were lifesavers at that age when he wasn't sayin much.

Not sure whether it's a fit as such, but LO definitely gives out her high pitched scream and cries when shes frustrated or doesn't get her way! For example this morning she was trying to pull a box set of DVDs out of the bookcase, but it was heavy and she couldn't do it...she got frustrated, as usual, and we just ignored it for 30 seconds and then kinda said "oh dear, that's a bit heavy isn't it? let's get you a book instead..." and it was fine then. Fortunately it's quite easy just to ignore and redirect at the moment.

@cmomma17: I like to try & talk her down but sometimes she is so loud that I don't even know if she could hear me if I tried to talk over her! Did labeling his feelings seem to help him eventually?

@Mrs. Sunshine: I say a lot of things like "are you mad/sad/frustrated? I'm sorry you feel that way. Cam mommy help you?" I don't ignore the fits at such a young age, I just try to be there for him? And distract when possible!
At 15 months I know why he is throwing a fit 99% of the time. If he's throwing one because I took away something he can't have? Then, yes, I will ignore!

@daniellemybelle: it's so hard! I just try to redirect/comfort her. I definitely don't think she has the ability to keep herself from throwing the fits but I want to give her the tools to learn to handle her feelings. It's just hard when I don't know what she is absorbing & what she understands

I posted a thread about this a while ago... My LO definitely throws fits & she's 9 months!

I struggle a lot with it because I don't really think at this age they can control their impulses but I also don't want to encourage the behavior by giving her what she wants when she is having a tantrum. I have not found a good way to handle it yet!

@cmomma17: gahh! I guess it really just goes to show that they are processing and understanding more than you would think at such a young age!

DD will be 11 months on the 12th. The past two weeks or so she has started throwing fits. Most of them are just mild shrieking that lasts for a minute & we can redirect or, if it's because of a diaper change or something, I've been giving her warnings ("We are going to change your diaper! Let's go get a diaper! Okay, we are going to change your diaper in two minutes! etc....). Today, she refused to nap all day but was fairly good until I was cooking dinner & had an epic meltdown, nearly resulting in her skipping dinner & definitely qualified her for an early bedtime. I just don't know how to help her. I feel like she is so incredibly young to be throwing fits. I just want her to feel safe expressing her emotions, there is just so much of it! :silly:
When did your LO start throwing regular fits?
