We gave LO an American name. My in-law's family keeps telling us that our next kid has to have a Vietnamese name and our third has to have a Chinese name. Umm.. no. That's not fair. My name is very much Chinese, but my sisters lucked out with names that fit better into American society (Lynn, Lee, and May). I was always jealous of them because my parents chose such a Chinese name, and I was ridiculed in school.
