Normal! I had the same concerns about my 3.5 year old because he used to plug his ears when we'd go for walks because of people mowing their lawns.

Oh gosh at age 34 sometimes I do/want to do this. And I'm pretty normal. I think ;)

I hate loud noises. Thunder, popping balloons, scary jump out at you movies.

Normal. My DD covers her ears as soon as we go into public restrooms because the noise of the toilets and hand dryers freaks her out.

My 3 yo has recently become very sensitive to loud noises. She's ok if it's expected- like I tell her I am about to start the blender and she sees me hit the button. But if something falls and makes a loud noise she freaks out. I think it's normal. And her hearing was just tested at the ent last month and is perfect.

Totally normal, at least IMO. My 3 year old does this with the blender every morning, but doesn't care about sirens. Unexpected loud noises are frightening/worrisome, and it's totally typical for little ones to be irritated or worried by them!

My DD will turn 3 in November. She's hit and surpassed all milestones. She's a great eater and a great sleeper. She talks a mile a minute and we have no worries about her ability to learn or retain. Her hearing and speech are normal (but hearing has never been tested). She does not get overwhelmed by lots outside noise or busy places.

My question is specifically about loud noises. If she thinks a loud noise is coming she'll cover her ears.

Examples are: walking down the street and dump truck drives by
- watching lion guard and she knows simba is about to roar
- at a pool with buckets that would fill and then splash over dumping into the bigger pool (the splash was "loud")
- daycare said she did it when a new baby was crying (but has since stopped. Did it just when the baby was.new to the daycare)

She doesn't do it if dh or I raise our voice or if a siren goes by or for loud music or in busy places like a mall or food court.

I plan to ask.our ped at the next appt but was curious for opinions.

Is this just one of her pet peeves and normal or is this a sign of something??
