A friend lent us the same one as @ Mrs Green Grass. So far the few times she has been in her crib I think she likes it.

Another lover of the tiny love mobile! Not for sleeping though. LO is so captivated by it and it is easily her favourite toy at 12 weeks old.

@charlotte: I have seen Tiny Love mobiles on Nobetterdeal so check there before ordering from Amazon! I'm not sure about which specific models they have but they definitely had 3 different ones earlier today.

We had the tiny love classic mobile. Like the others it's not a must have but it's definitely a nice to have. We used it until almost 18mo!

We have the Tiny Love Soothe and Groove mobile and LO lovveessssss it. I wouldn't call it a must-have, and it certainly doesn't help him sleep, but it's really great for when we're getting ready in the morning and we just need him to chill in his crib for a bit. I also like that the mobile part easily disconnects so they can use it as a music-box later on (there's a little handle that pops in when it's in the crib and pops out later so they can carry it around). He talks to that thing for a good 15-20 minutes before shouting out to us for attention. I also like to play the classical or lullaby music when we're reading to him at night or nursing or doing his post-bath massage.

It's one of my favorite items. I think it needs to move and be brightly colored to really be useful.

I have the Tiny Love Sweet Islands mobile and lo LOVES it! Sometimes when he's crying, he stops only when I put him in his crib and turn his mobile on.

It plays Mozart and Bach and sounds much nicer than most kid toys. And the bright colors on the animals are totally captivating. You can also turn it on with no music which I do sometimes when he's really drowsy.

I don't think it's necessary, per say, but we have one and love it. We also have a crib soother like the Fisher Price one above and LO adores it. We have this one:

No, definitely not necessary for us, ours doesn't even spin. What has been a lifesaver is the crib entertainer! You can get them super cheap at the used kids stores.

@Foodnerd81: yeah, H's is really cute birds that match her tree decal in her nursery but functionally it is a total fail! When it's close to bedtimev& she's getting fussy I can stick her in the crib while I get bath/bed stuff ready but I have to stop every 3 mins and wind it up or she will fuss! It sucks but it's so cute I kept it:)

I've been wondering about this as well. I know my nephew would stare at his for 20 minutes or so while laying in the crib-- enough to eat a sandwich or finish showering or go to the bathroom. It played music and spun around-- I think maybe the animals kind of dropped down a little as they spun. But my sister never used it with actually sleeping really.

@PrincessBaby: I'm actually really glad to read that about the PBK one-- they are SO cute, but I was wondering about the wind up, especially since they are more expensive than a lot of others. But they have one with elephants that is just so adorable..

We have a mobile and my LO loves it. She likes it when she first wakes p and is just hanging in her crib talking to herself:). I think that you honestly cannot have too many tools in the Baby Entertainment arsenal, so I say get one:). I bought a really cute one from PBK but it winds up and I don't recommend that! Get an electric one so you don't have to wind it every few mins!

We currently do not have a mobile or anything exciting on the wall right by my son's crib. He is 2 months old. I am able to put him down drowsy but awake for naps and bedtime with no problems right now.

That said, he has started waking up for the day at like 4AM lately. He is WIDE awake and noisy but not crying or hungry or interested in his pacifier... it honestly seems like he is just awake and bored. Would this be a time that he might like to look at a mobile and entertain himself (and let me SLEEP a little longer)?

Do you consider a mobile useful or not? What situations does it help you with? Do you think it might be helpful for ours?

[sidenote, I am totally speculating on his 4AM boredom and this might just be a random phase. still curious if there will come a time that I need one...]
