I would try and change the date since it sounds like you both really want to be there. If you can make another date work for everyone else coming to the party.

I don't think it hurts to just see if you can change the date. If you can't you cant, but at least you tried.

@Mrs. Pen: lol Oh I know. I would totally make the effort since you want her there, it's not like it's some crazy family member who's making a big stink and you don't care one way or the other.

@ladyfingers: @Bao: bahhh!!! don't say that!!! haha. The only people I really care about coming is my family and her. I mean there are others I might be disappointed about - but I wouldn't consider changing the date for them. Make sense?

Sounds like you REALLY want her to come, so change the date. IMO a bff not being there is not that big of a deal...grandparents that want to be there Yes, friends that have other confirmed plans No.

That's a tough one, I feel like with things like this, someone is not going to be able to come. Check with the venue and photographer and then maybe decide from there.

If you really really want her there, just check with the places you've booked first to make sure it won't be a hassle. Just be forewarned, if you change the date, Murphy's Law states that somebody else close to you won't be able to make it! ;)

I would definitely look into the logistics of changing it, how other guests are effected, and if the venue & photographer would be available. My bestfriend missed my baby shower but there was no way I could change the date... had there been I probably would've.

I'd do a quick check to see if vendors are available a different day & if so switch, of not, then it is what it is.

@Boogs: Well we haven't sent out invites yet. The only people who know the date is my immediate family, and I would check with them first but Feb/March is a pretty eventless time so I would assume there would be no issues.
And of course I would check with the venue and photog but I'm pretty sure they're open (again - off season).

It's so tricky. If you change the date for her, would it cause anyone else to not be able to come? And would be venue and photographer be available on the alternate date you're considering?

Vent/Advice needed!! So we planned DS's birthday party in February, the day after his actual birthday. I just text my best friend (since 5th grade!!) and wanted to give her a text "save the date" before mailing out invites to make sure she can come and help out. Turns out she has a familial obligation (planned 5 months ago) that day. urghhhh we are both super upset! Doesn't sound like something she can get out of. She is my best friend and a part of LO's life - I don't want her to miss it and I'm considering changing the date just for her! Even though the photographer and and venue are booked - they haven't charged us yet (they wait until closer to the day).

What would you do? Change the date for one person and try to work it out with the date-sensitive items (venue, photog, invites) - or leave it as is and accept her not being able to come??
