@blackbird: We'll see if she gets it! I think she will be at least excited about the sticker aspect because she looooves stickers.

@Applesandbananas: Oh, good to know! I think I'll definitely buy it and give it a read then.

@wheres_c: The reason I want to try a method is because I am afraid of doing it "wrong" and having regressions. She is on the early side for potty training (23 months) and I've heard so many stories about regressions. I just want to do it right and once!

@MamaCate: Thanks! I think I want to check the book out anyway but I probably will adapt it!

@daniellemybelle: if you think your LO will get it, do it! I'm not sure E would've understood a chart versus instantaneous rewards (a toy collector video on my phone). You won't be stuck with a reward forever

There's a section in OCPT about how to go from where your LO is, to full time potty use, but if I were in your shoes, I'd just go bottomless, encourage full time potty use, and see how it went. She has some great suggestions about prompting and backing off, and how to handle behavior vs. learning. I really liked the book, but my LO really hadn't been exposed much. He would occasionally sit on the potty at daycare but that's all.

We didnt use any "method". He started like your LO, understanding he was about to go.
We just took him at regular intervals, rewarded him with chocolate eggs for a #2 on the toilet, and switched him to underwear.
It's hard for me to understand the need for "methods" because it seemed so easy. (seems like I'm in the minority.)

@daniellemybelle: I think you should save your money and don't need the book! We potty trained 18 months ago and i never heard of this book. My LO was showing similar readiness to yours. We did 3 day boot camp which you can just google and never looked back! And used rewards!

@blackbird: @BananaPancakes: @NovBaby1112: @travellingbee: Good to know that it is easy to incorporate rewards! I think we will do a sticker chart over toys/treats since she is so nuts about stickers and she'll be able to see her progress - what do you think?

@hummusgirl: That's good to know! We've gotten kind of bad about juice since we've been traveling - she knows now if we are at a restaurant to ask for apple juice! :meh:

We did it without rewards and it worked great. LO was excited enough by the juice on Day 1 (which he doesn't often get) and hanging out with our full attention on him that he was in pretty good spirits about the whole thing.

Also did oh crap with rewards. Doesn't need to be a hard and fast method to work!

I did oh crap pretty much to the t, but used all sorts of rewards. Like I actually had a huge tub of dollar store toys to choose for every potty action. Wasn't a big deal. Stopped the rewards after a week and just told him that was how it was going to be. I really liked her method and it worked well for us. I think it sound like you'll have an easy time since she's already getting there on her own.

We use rewards and they are super helpful. I think reading about different methods and taking ideas from them is a good way to go, whatever works best for your LO! I know mine wouldn't have been motivated without treats.

We used this Lucies list method based on Oh Crap. It's like a cliff notes version. And we did use some rewards. It was quick and easy for us. http://www.lucieslist.com/introduction-to-potty-training/

I've decided that LO is so ready for potty training that I can't put it off anymore. We'll be going for it about a week after returning home from this long trip we're on.

Here are two reasons I'm wondering if it's worth the money to buy the book and try the method:

#1: LO is "potty training herself" as folks like to say. We introduced the potty, read some books, had her watch me go to the bathroom, sat her on it a few times and she has really gone from there. I hardly ever prompt her but she will tell me before she needs to go and she will pee on the potty. Of course, she doesn't always tell me. This maybe happens about once per day. Maybe twice if we are home most of the day. She has never pooped on the potty though she has asked to try and tells me, "I push the poo poo out and splash!" but then she says, "I can't." She'll poop in her diaper like 3 minutes later. But asking on her own to go try to poop on the potty I feel like is a great sign of readiness.

So, all that to say, I feel like if she is already started, will this method work for us? Can we jump in where we are or is it better for LOs who are not using the potty at all yet?

#2: The book is against rewards, right? LO is VERY motivated by rewards and also for a 23 month old, I think she understands them pretty well. For example, if I say, "Sit quietly in the grocery store and you'll get a sticker when we're done," she is much more likely to do it and will remind me about the sticker. (She is still a toddler so it doesn't work all the time but the fact that it ever works impresses me.) Is it okay to incorporate simple rewards in the method?

Tell me what you think, potty trainers!
