@raintreebee: Just realized I never followed up on this... I decided to pass on the infant Bundle Me, so it's all yours!

@MrsKoala: I decided to add an infant "shower cap-style" Bundle Me and the toddler stroller Bundle Me to my Amazon registry. If someone wants to buy them, great. If not, I'll wait and see if I need them before shelling out for extra gear. I suspect I will wind up buying the toddler one for the stroller and just winging it for a month or two right after he's born. If he hates being carried/worn then I will reconsider, but if he likes it then I'm sure he will feel perfectly warm if he's attached to me in the Moby. And presumably he won't be too heavy to carry longer distances for the first month or two.

As an added bonus, I have heard that fewer people try to touch your infant if you're wearing him instead of pushing him in a stroller.

I think I'm just doing a lot of layers/blankets and a hat. I had the Bundleme on my registry but took it off because of the issue of car seat safety (an article I read freaked me out). I'm honestly just hoping we won't be outside with baby much in the beginning especially as it's cold/flu season but since we are in the burbs, we have a different situation.

I used to live in Hoboken, I didn't have a car there though.

As for a diaper bag, I learned that the best thing I could do was to put a diaper wallet with a changing pad in the stroller and carry my valuables with me, in a small crossbody bag. You never know when you have to "leave" your stroller and you don't want to be fiddling with getting your bag out from underneath or having it tip over from the weight without your baby to counterbalance it.

@hilsy85: Gotcha. That is a good point, I forgot about the driving incompatibility. I guess we will just buy the larger BundleMe size and use it with the stroller the following year.

I personally tend to run warm and have been known to overheat while skiing and strip down to my tank top to cool off during the lift ride in between runs. So, I can't use my own personal preferences to gauge how warm a baby needs to be!

Thanks again for the input.

@ElbieKay: ah gotcha. If you're planning on using the carseat, then a shower cap style like @looch said would probably be your best bet, because that's the only one that you can safely use in the car as well. You CAN use the regular bundle me at other times, but that just means you'd have to take it off when you wanted to drive somewhere with him...not sure if you want to deal with that?

As for walking, Hoboken has tons of cafes and stuff right? I know for me, i had to be out of the house every day after the first few days because otherwise I would go crazy! Babies stay super warm and cozy bundled in their seats/strollers, so I really wouldn't worry about him being cold :) Fresh air is probably good for both of you! So personally, I would plan on using the stroller a lot (but not for super long times at once, like you said). Of course, you could always wear him, depending on if you plan to/if he likes it.

Anyway, I will email you so you have my email and then you can decide :)

@hilsy85: Oooh, I might be. I just don't know how to plan, and I don't want my little guy to be cold! Can you email me at laurak [at] gmail?

We got a Britax infant seat that is compatible with our City Mini stroller. We're not planning to use a bassinet.

We live in Hoboken, so we only really drive on the weekends. I think he will only be in the car during the first 6-8 weeks to (a) come home from the hospital and (b) go see the pediatrician. We can walk most other places, and I will try to force the grandparents to come to our place so I don't have to pack up all his gear until I am more settled into being a mom. (They are both about an hour away so not necessarily an easy trip if he decides he hates the car.) I don't anticipate taking super long walks -- max an hour around town to get some fresh air? or maybe a cup of coffee for me? -- so am wondering if I will even need the stroller other than to take him to the car on a few rare occasions. (Our parking spot is about half a mile from our apartment, so I don't want to carry the infant carrier that far.) How long can I go without needing a diaper bag?!

@looch: Thanks for the suggestion, I will research those too! I hadn't heard of them!

My son was born in December, it snowed that week. Just 3 weeks later, I was outside walking around with a fleece jacket, it got unseasonably warm, so I feel your pain!

I would skip the small bundleme, and instead get a shower cap style cover...you can use it much longer, as it also offers wind protection!

@ElbieKay: What kind of stroller situation do you have? Do you plan to use the carseat or a bassinet?

Also, I have an infant sized jjcole bundle me that I used like twice if you would be interested :) (I"m also in the NYC area).

So, my due date is in late February -- the 23rd -- and we live in the NYC area. Depending on if my baby is early or late, and how fickle the weather is, he could be born during a below-freezing snowstorm, or when it's already in the 40s. Regardless, I doubt we will spend tremendous amounts of time outside for the first 3-4 weeks, and I will have both a Moby and a Beco so I can keep him warm by carrying him close to me while he is super tiny. And we can layer lots of blankets over him in the car seat.

Are other people in this scenario planning to buy any newborn winter gear (e.g., the newborn size Bundle Me)? I don't want him to be cold, but I hate to stock up on gear that I may not use at all, and that would only be used for max 4-5 weeks if I do.

I think my friend has a snowsuit hand-me-down, so maybe that will be sufficient if we also have some warm blankets.

What are other people doing in this situation?
