@mrs. wagon: I just ordered the Ms. Bento thermos-style "bento", that keeps foods hot or cold for up to 6 hours. My baby will be eating both breakfast and lunch at daycare and this has 3 bowls (2 are the insulated ones, so 1 for breakfast and 1 for lunch and 1 uninsulated cup for a snack). This way, her teachers won't ever need to microwave anything (so not as much worry as releasing toxins from plastic) but she'll still get a hot breakfast and lunch.

I just ordered it yesterday and haven't gotten it in yet, but it looks like it will fit in her baby backpack with her 2 straw cups. They have a lot of other styles and sizes as well....a "mini bento" thermos and a "Mr. Bento" that is bigger.

@Sparkler: I use these for my lunches!!! I love them!

@mrs. wagon: We handwash most plastics, but they are rubbermaid so I imagine they would hold up well in the dishwasher.

Its plastic but I love these and having been using them for years!

Sassy on the go set -

I usually either put 2 hot dishes and then a separate container for fruit or I use the large insert for fruit (so it can be removed) and put something that needs to be heated in the other side.

This was a cold lunch

@Sparkler: I really like those! Another big gripe I have about metal things is that they're all round! how do these hold up in the dishwasher?

Since my son's preschool doesn't heat food and my husband pointed out all the practicality issues with stainless steel that you did, I opted to not worry about it. I got this for the school year and am pretty pleased with it!

I'm trying to get rid of all plastics, so I want to move to a metal lunchbox solution for the kids. Mrs. Bee's review of the Planetbox got me thinking, but I think I want separate containers instead of one big one since I don't want them opening their lunch before lunchtime. They do morning and afternoon snack.

I started looking into individual metal containers, but then I realized that most have solid lids so the caregivers can't tell what's in them without opening them. I don't really want to label the containers every single day... that's a lot of containers, with two kids! Maybe I could label them lunch, snack, and snack, though...

I also want separate containers because we pack a lot of fruits, which can be runny and leak... and we also pack a lot of dinner leftovers, like pasta with sauce, and that can be quite messy as well.

I can't help but want shiny new lunchboxes with built-in ice packs, as well! lol. We do have the cloth type lunchboxes and use regular ice packs, but they get so condensation-y that we have to put them in ziplock bags.

So yeah!! Show me your lunch packing solutions, please!!
