We have the PBK Cameron storage system which works well for us. Wide base to prevent tipping. Not the cheapest thing in the world, but when everything is put away it looks nice and organized.

This is our under-stairs closet. We installed some shelves and shove the mess in it, then close the door. Previously, we used a shoe closet with shelves to store all the kids toys.

@LadyDi: We don’t have a play room but DS has nearly all his toys in his room. We got the storage unit from wayfair and the bins form target and they have held up to consistent daily use for over 3 years!

@MrsSRS: Love your response!

@LadyDi: We've recently switched up our playroom - I'll try to explain both ways we did it - I don't have photos of the first way readily available since it's not currently what we are doing - but it worked well when we had our playroom in a smaller space.

So - the weekend that shutdowns were announced in March, we decided to take our playroom out of our formal living room and do a massive play area in our unfinished basement. For that we used 4 KALLAX shelves, TONS of sterilite bins & drawer sets, KALLAX bins of various sorts, and LOTS of labels both on the toy bins and on the shelves where I want the bins placed. I wouldn't say the overall look is very pinterest-y, since our basement is faux-finished (AKA we ran to IKEA and Home Depot on March 12th and did the best we could without help from a contractor!), but it works.

Pre-Covid, we had an IKEA PAX wardrobe with sliding doors (the widest and tallest option) as our primary toy storage. One side had a clothes rail about halfway up, where we hung dress-up clothes with plastic tubs containing other dress up/pretend play items (shoes, purses, tutus, tiaras, wands/etc.). Above the bar were two evenly spaced shelves; I used those to hold "big" toys that couldn't easily be boxed (dollhouse, Little People sets, etc.) on the first shelf, and less-played-with/kids-shouldn't-touch-alone items (electronic toys, things with tons of small parts like LEGOS, etc.) on the high shelf. On the second side of the wardrobe I had 5 drawers (very long and deep in terms of the "floor space" of each drawer, but not terrible "tall", if that makes sense), followed by 2-3 shelves. The drawers contained plastic bins of like items (Barbies, Barbie Clothes) and some loose items (Barbie horses/vehicles in with the Barbie boxes), puzzles, building sets (magnatiles, etc.). Like the first side, the shelves then contained large/strangely shaped items, with the first shelf containing the things I wanted more accessible and the top shelf containing things like musical instruments/noisy toys that I preferred to control access to. Aside from that, kitchen stuff went in the play kitchen, and train things were under the train table in a bin.

In the wardrobe, each container had a label with both writing and an image pulled from Google of the items. The drawers/shelves themselves also had copies of the labels so the kids knew where to put things (not saying they always did it, but I tried....). I also had childproof sliding locks on the doors to keep the toddler from getting into things and having a box-dumping fest. :)

Ours is not pretty, but it works. HOWEVER, I think the reason it gets so consistently used is because every three months or so I change it a little. I don't have any budget for any sort of refresh, so just working with what I have I reorganize a little bit. So maybe I swap the Lego table with the dress up area or maybe blocks that are in the closet get swapped out with magnetiles that are on the shelf so that they're more easily visible or the guinea pig cage that's in the corner trades places with the toy kitchen... I don't do a toy rotation because my kids are too old for that to be very functional, but I try to see where are they not playing and then think about what they spend a lot of time playing and try to make the space reflect that as easily as possible.

So right now we have kitchen and Lego, art and craft area and the closet is full of extra art supplies and then they also each have a shelf to keep things that are precious to them but look like garbage to me, then a shelf with building things and blocks and actually it's a mess right now I'm not sure what's on there, and then dolls dress up and pretend play

Ours is disorganized organization. I have an ikea kaplan 2x4 with bin storage and a lot of soft sided rope bins from target. The legos and trains go in clear tubs with lids.
My problem is the kids just dump things out and nothin has a true home so it just gets dumped back into bins.
For legos, they are in two plastic storage tubs With lids, one smaller and one larger. I have them play with the smaller one so it’s more manageable and then rotate the legos in that
I have a large gathre mat they play on for legos. And a double LEGO tray from red bard collective on Etsy which gives them a surface to play on. The playroom is also a lounge room for us so I have two oversized west elm swivel chairs and a tv on the wall

Not able to take a picture without disturbing the kids but we are an all Ikea family when it comes to the toy room. Our toy room in the basement is sort of a long rectangle but not large by any means. At one end, we have a Stuva wardrobe that holds all of the games and puzzles and then the rest of the wall is filled with the trofast storage bins. I created two lego tables out of the lack side tables and a bin of legos goes under each one. It's not by any means fully organized and beautiful but it works for us. We still have some larger toys that just sit on the floor like some of the hot wheels tracks.

@LadyDi: It's funny I said we had bins under there and then when I looked at the picture it's an Amazon box 😂. We did have bins at one point but we moved a couple months ago and I have no idea what happened lol. The map picture came from Home Goods a couple weeks ago.

@Rocker2014: I just saw someone in a facebook group that I am in recommend the bean bag storage for stuffies. I have never thought of that before. I strongly dislike stuffies so that's a great way to store them.

@ShootingStar: Thank you! Good call for under the train table storage. Do you remember where you got the map on the wall?

This is our play room. We mostly use the cubbies for stuff, which we got from target I think. We also have some bins that go under the train table and we stuff things in the play kitchen too. I love how it’s set up because even when there’s a giant mess and you can’t walk in there it can usually be cleaned up in less than 10 minutes.

Not at home so I can't show you, but our play area storage is mostly ikea cube storage and rubbermaid bins (clear to see what's in them).

BUT, I have to recommend this beanbag chair style storage for stuffies, etc. We got one of these a couple of months ago and it was a game changer, storage wise. Love it! We have the XL size and it's great for both sitting and storing things.

We are sectioning off part of our basement as a play area and I need better toy storage. I can't deal with pinterest and I need to see real life play spaces. How do you store toys? My oldest is 5 so we have a mix of things from small legos to baby toys. I already have cube storage and we plan on getting some trofast storage bins from ikea, but I would also like a flat space for lego building or play dough. We have a train table but my toddler LOVES trains so it's always in use. What does your play area look like?
