I didn't know about the etiquette until I read it somewhere on here! I ended up giving my two hosts a nice bag of Bath & Body Works products. I managed to combine coupon & sale, so I didn't spend much, but it looked really nice.

@derevival: From what I've read, it's just a nice thing to do, not required/expected. Since these are the same people who hosted my wedding shower, and I didn't get a gift then, I know they won't expect it. But it seems extra nice since it would sort of thank them for both.

Thanks for the ideas everyone!

My friend gave me a cookbook that she knew I would love.

@Derevival: I wasn't expecting the gift at all, so it was just a nice gesture. I do think you can give something very little--like a nice thank you note attached to a very nice chocolate bar!

I gifted my girls a pair of nice sandals/flip flops and then something personal. For one, I got her a purse organizer in her favorite color bc she likes to lug around HUGE purses and they're a mess. for my other BFF, I gifted her an at home pedicure set with polishes.

I hosted a baby shower this past weekend, and didn't receive a gift so it's totally okay if you don't want to!

oh my. I had no idea the hostess was supposed to get a gift. How horrible would it be if this didn't happen? My finances are a bit strained right now...

How about a gift card to a local nail salon? $30 will usually cover a mani/pedi so it's a great value.

I gave a Stop&Shop $100 gift card to my aunt (with FOUR KIDS under 5) who went out of her way to graciously host. My SIL and dear friend hosted our other shower (at friend's house) I had gotten my friend a $50 Lush gift card (their favorite store) and a few nail polishes for my SIL who was "helping." It became evident that SIL was doing next to nothing and I saw how much it stressed my friend so I just gave my SIL a card, and gave the nail polish to my equally polish-obsessed friend :)Afterwards when we saw how much time, work, and money my friend and her boyfriend went through we sent them a $50 target gift card too. I think anything geared towards the host or hosts' interests is great!

For my wedding shower I gave my BMs handmade soaps ($5 each),since it was a shower (haha get it) and I cant remember what I gave my MOH who hosted my baby shower... I think it was sometime from Etsy that was about $20 or so.

I gave my hostesses a potted flower that they could plant if they wanted, or let it die if they didn't feel like planting it and taking care of it.
Easy and not too $$$!

We had 11 hosts (people kept volunteering after I had said I only wanted one shower) and I gave them Anthropologie coffee mugs with their last name letters on them with hot cocoa mix from a local spice store. The gifts were about $12 each. A lot of the hostesses were really surprised by the gift and said they didn't expect anything.

I didn't do gifts for my friend shower, since 7 girls hosted it and we have all taken turns and I never got a gift. My family shower, was hosted by my sister (with help from Aunts) and I got her a manicure and pedicure gift card.

I had three hostesses for my shower. I wrote them cards and tucked in Starbucks gift cards - very unoriginal, I know, but I just couldn't think of anything else and we are all huge coffee drinkers :) can't remember exactly how much I gave, but I think it was around $40 each.

Google seems to be telling me that gifts for those hosting my showers are not required, but are a nice thing to do. What did you do?

My mom is apparently handling the gifts for the hostesses of my shower here. Given that they're all her friends, some of whom I barely know, I think that makes sense. She's also keeping them very small because there are 6+ hostesses so she doesn't want to break the bank on them.

But I would be the logical person to get gifts for the hostesses (only 3, thankfully) of my other, smaller shower. It's this weekend, so if I'm going to do something I should probably get on it. I was thinking of looking for something at Hobby Lobby, since all three are very religious and they have a lot of cute stuff there. Anyone have thoughts on gift ideas or budget? It's going to be a very small shower, so I would assume a similarly small gift would make the most sense, not something really extravagant?
