I think you will inevitably end up calling them Jack and Max and you'll often call them by the wrong name or they'll hear the wrong name on a regular basis. If you only call your 4 year old Jackson I think it is fine because when you yell the emphasis will be on the "son". So I'd probably stop calling my kid Jack and use Max. </p> <p>FWIW, my SILs have similar names: Annemarie and Danielle. As full names they were fine, but in middle school they went by Dan and Ann. They frequently were confused at who FIL was calling and he regrets having names so similar. We already have a Jackson and thinking of naming our new LO Max but I worry it's too close? We sometimes call J "Jack" but never "Jacks". Our other idea is naming the new one Maxwell so it's a little different but we'd probably always call him Max. I am not thrilled by Maxwell! </p>
