Not really. I was the only girl, so I feel the need to compete with my brothers because we were "different". I'm glad I didn't have a sister! Plus, I always looked up to my brothers, so competing seemed pointless.

My brother and I are competitive but in a silly way. Like we love to beat each other at board games. Or see who gets the other one a better bday present each year (our bdays are two days apart). But it never gets serious or mean.

It really wasn’t that bad for us either. I have a younger sister (22 months younger) and a younger brother (a much bigger gap there…10 years) and we weren’t really competitive when we were younger. We’ve just always been close. Now we can be a little competitive when it comes to running but we mostly just support each other! I had huge attitude/personality clashes with my parents while I was living at home and I think it brought my siblings and I even closer.

Not at all. My brother and I weren't/aren't competitive in anything. Maybe it's our age gap (4 years)? Plus he's just a super easy going guy and doesn't really have any competitive juices in him. I love him!!!

We had a little bit when we were younger, but not much. My sister is 3 years younger than me and she's super smart (she was valedictorian of her high school class). Sometimes it gets to me when people tell her "you're too smart to be a teacher, go be a doctor/lawyer!" (She's in college to be an elementary teacher too). However, we're not really competitive. She was focused on her friends/schoolwork when she was in high school and now college. I, on the other hand, finished college a year early, got married, and I'm now pregnant at almost 23 (and wouldn't have it any other way!).

We're proud of each other even though there's a lot of both similarities/differences in our lives. We definitely don't have any real rivalry anymore.

Yes! My older brother and I are fairly competitive by nature and always tried to "beat" each other, especially academically. I actually credit how well I did in school to the fact that I always wanted to "win". :-P It was always a fun thing between us, though.

I was competitive, but my brother didn't seem to care about joining in so it never got to that point.

No my sister and I aren't competitive, we're actually really supportive of each other and are proud of each other. Everyone comments on how strange we are together because we get along so well and share with each other so well. She's 3 years older than I am if that matters.

Not really, we don't have those kinds of personalities. I'm one of five and felt performance pressure from my friends, not my siblings. The same seems to be true of DH and his brother.

Oh definitely. My brother and I were competitive only academically. I remember when we'd bring home our report cards, my parents would let whoever did better pick the big dinner treat for the weekend. Usually pizza or chinese (since we almost always had home-made meals the rest of the time, so takeout was a big deal).

My brother and I didn't have any sibling rivalry. DH and his oldest brother are competitive about academics and snowboarding! My best friend and her older sister are competitive about everything...:-)

Is there any sibling rivalry in your family?
