I second the hot water or the vinegar. Or just put them away long enough for the virus to die and wash with soap and water. Hand foot and mouth is contagious but it's mostly poor sanitary habits.

Maybe check with your pediatrician to see what he/she wants you to do? I would put all the plastic toys in the dishwasher and soak the cloth toys in hot water and soap/detergent/vinegar. Then air dry the cloth toys. I hope your LO gets better asap!!

YIkes!!
Hope LO gets better soon!
I would run the cloth toys in the wash using hot water and regular baby detergent?
Plastic toys I would either boil in hot water or use vinegar to clean.

Moms! I need help! My LO was just diagnosed with a really contagious virus (http://www.cdc.gov/hand-foot-mouth/index.html, if you are curious). It should go away in 7 to 10 days, but in the meantime we need to disinfect EVERYTHING.

Any tips on how to clean plastic and cloth toys? On one hand, I don't want to use any harsh chemicals because she puts all her toys in her mouth. But on the other hand, I want to make sure I'm getting rid of germs. I'm thinking about throwing some of the plastic stuff in the dishwasher, but the cloth toys all say hand-wash and I don't know if that will get them clean enough.

Ugh. I blame daycare for this!
