This is how my kids are when sick (as infants). R is 13 months and is sick as a dog right now. He is barely napping at all. We just have to ride it out and once the initial sickies pass, he makes up for it.

Aw! I'm sorry you're going through this but don't be too hard on yourself! You're doing everything you can!

I agree with maybe trying benadryl. It's the only thing that works for me when I'm congested and it helps sleep, so it could help on both fronts.

Poor baby!!! :-( I also suggest using benedryl for a desperate situation like that. We have used mucinex multi-symptom w/ cough supressent (under our pediatrician's care) when our girls have been super sick like that.

I agree with trying Benadryl to help dry up some of the drainage so she (and you) can at least sleep for a few hours before the med wears off! Good luck and hope she feels better soon!

When my LO1 was super sick around that age, our doctor prescribed 1 ml of Bromfed. Its normally for older kids but our Ped said that dose was okay and we were desperate. It helped take the edge off.

Benadryl has been a lifesaver for the bad cold/cough situations...our doctor said it helps to dry them up enough so when laying down it wouldn't cause the cough as much.

@autumn865: no suggestions here, just hoping it's over soon and don't feel bad about the 3 year old!

I had no idea we were "allowed" to use Benadryl! I'm totally open to that in extreme situations. Hopefully we won't need it but we had a really rough one recently and it would have been helpful for the 3 yo.

A rolled up towel propping up her mattress, a little physiological water squirted up the nose, a warm bath and some baby ibuprofen is our basic strategy. Plus lots of fluids. Don't be so hard on yourself either, you are doing everything you can for your little one which means you are a great mom! Hopefully they will feel better soon and rest easier. Hang in there, hugs

@MrsSRS: I try really hard to limit medicine in general, but I'm also not going to let her (and me!) be miserable when there is something I can do to fix it. Especially when it's affecting her sleep and ability to get better.

@Mrs. Lion: @Foodnerd81: Ha! I was afraid of being judged. We pair up benadryl with the Hyland's homeopathic infant cough syrup. It usually gives us at least a 4-6 hour stretch of nighttime sleep. Benadryl is dosed by weight and due to food allergies DS had his first dose around 8 months so we knew it was safe and used it for sleep in extreme situations starting around a year.

I'd be careful with the nose frida, I hear you can over use it if you aren't careful. Maybe your pediatrician can recommend some medicine? For a cough we have used hylands homeopathic nighttime cough and cold and it seemed to help a little bit- not sure on the age limit those DH, I never tried it until my LO was almost 2.5. Honey has helped us a bit but yours is under a year. It's so sad when they are sick and there is just nothing you can do.

It sounds like you have already tried all of my suggestions :( Have you propped the mattress a bit? That helps us sometimes, at least until she rolls herself all the way to the bottom and gets mad. SO many hugs momma. You're doing a great job.

My 11 month old is sick with a bad cold (coughing, congestion etc.) and is literally not sleeping. Yesterday she napped for 30 minutes despite waking 8+ times the night before. She will not let me hold or rock her, all she wants is her crib but she can't get herself to sleep. Co sleeping, car naps, stroller naps and ergo carrier naps are all disasterous and don't work :( we elevated her crib, use the nose Frida constantly, baby Vic's rub and cool mist with absolutely so help. I feel like a terrible mommy because I can't get her the sleep she needs to get better and my three year old is plopped in front of the tv :( so any suggestions would be great...
