I agree with the others - sounds like an ear infection. Poor baby!

How's he doing? I would also suspect ear infection.

@nana87: right after I posted I actually thought to try this - and he's nursing in the football hold, yay! Definitely makes me wonder if that one ear hurts him. Maybe a doctor's visit is in our future... :-/

Could be an ear infection, could just be he's just more congested on that side and can't breathe.

Things I've done in the past that seemed to help - saline nose spray, suctioning his nose before feeding, rubbing a little Vicks Babyrub on the side of my breast so he breathes it while feeding.

it might be an ear infection if he's refusing to lay on one side. have you tried using that breast to nurse but in a different position so that he's not laying on his ear? like maybe football hold?

I would say that it probably hurts to lay on that side. I just had this with my 7 month old. We took her to the doc. She didn't have an ear infection, but she had clear fluid in her ear that could have turned into an infection. They gave her antibiotics to prevent an infection. She's much better now.

Help! My 4 month old has had a nasty cold for a couple days - lots of cough and runny nose - and starting last night has flat out refused to nurse on my left side. He won't even attempt to latch - just screams at it. He'll take my right side just fine though.

Why??? Ear infection? Something else?

I can obviously pump, but I'm so confused!
