I get two dedicated family care days for sick kids and then 6 additional sick days that I could use for me or for a child. But my husband will probably handle most sick baby days because he can work from home very easily. I'm actually looking at a slight position change myself so hopefully by the time a LO arrives I will be able to work remotely as well when needed.

I was worried about this going back to work, which was partly why we decided on a nannyshare over daycare. So far, so good. I haven't had to take any days off for my son being sick yet and he's now 15 months old. I do plan to take one day off this month as he's having minor surgery, but I scheduled it for the day before my holiday break so I can be home with him for the full week afterward without taking time off.

@bluestriped bee: Spread out to a day or 2 at a time. Plus he had ear tube placement surgery so that was an extra day. We always schedule his pedi appointments on Friday afternoons so we don't have to take but a few hours off of work for that. He isn't up for going back to school after his vaccines usually.

I don't get paid vacation either. Since my LO started day care at the end of last year, I took 5 days straight in January and then another 5 days straight in April for her sickness. The summer was a lot better since there are a lot less illnesses during those months but I still had to take off a few days here and there because of 24 hour bugs. One time she fell down at day care so I had to leave work early. And then she had a skin condition so I had to take off a few hours once a month to go take her to a dermatologist.

There are also the regular wellness checks which are monthly for quite some time when your LO is young so yes .... this is why parents always talk about using up vacation and sick days.

@pelikila: Is that 6 straight days of being sick or is that spread out over a couple months?

I don't get sick leave at all and have to use my vacation hours if I or my son get sick. My husband does get sick leave to use for himself, children, doctor's appointments, etc so as often as possible, we try to work it where he will stay home with the baby when he is sick instead of me.

My son was born in mid-February and has been in daycare since 8 weeks old. He's been sick and had to stay home for about 6 days. He's actually home sick right now. My husband stayed with him yesterday, I'm with him today, and probably tomorrow my husband will be with him again.

I always hear about parents-to-be saving up their sick and vacation days for their child.

I understand that this is different for everyone. I know children in daycare usually get sick more often other children.

Anyway, how many sick or vacation days did you use because your LO was sick?

ETA: Yup, this is a spinoff from a thread on WB. :)
