KJ IS HOME!!! The vet wasnt sure what happened but all he had was blood in his urine. No infection, stone, blockage etc. He thinks his urthera was spasming so much that it caused the bleeding...maybe? He still has heary disease but with a supplement and regular cat food, not dog food (silly kitty), that he should be okay.

Poor KJ is at the vet over the weekend. The sample I gave them wasnt good enough for them to run lab. when I showed them the pictures of the bloody urine they admitted him right away. They have to put him on an IV to push the fluids through him to help clear out his system but to much fluid with his heart condition & it will kill him. They are giving him pain meds and relaxers to comfort him. Hopefully he can relax enough to pee so they can find out what is wrong!

Send good vibes and mojo towards KJ! He is only 6 years old!

Poor Kitty! Don't feel bad, my DH didn't take his cat to the vet for 7 years because like you, he never took his cats to the vet growing up. I hope poor kitty gets better :(

Awww...poor baby! Our furbaby gets a comprehensive check I think twice a year. The vet will call us and it's included (in her Banfield Wellness Plan). She's also had a plethora of problems the past few years, so I would say she goes into the vet about 4xs a year. It's always so hard when they are sick because they can't tell you and pets are truly so innocent. :/ Hope your kitty feels better soon!

Had to lock the cat up in the bathroom last night to collect his urine sample in his litter box. Warning TMI: he pissed blood in the sink & my tub! It looked like someone has a horrible shaving accident! I called the vet and the assistant is like egh, like its nothing! The vet is suppose to be calling me back but I'm worried. Thats SOOOOO NOT NORMAL! DH is even being sympathetic to me & KJ. Ugh I'm going to be a wreak if we have kids!

NO BLOCKAGE!! Yay! I have to collect a urine sample & send that in tomorrow & they want to do blood work. His heart rate was to high 280ish which is way above nornal range during a vet visit. He has refused to eat cat food and has been eating dog food for a whike. She said cat food has taurine in it to help them digest food. Dog food doesn't have it & it causes heart disease in cats if they eat to much of it.

Now we have to feed them seperately but if we caught it early enough he should be alright! She sent home tons of sample food and so far he likes the rabbit meat food! I havent seen him chow down on cat food like that in over a year! Yay KJ!

Oh no!

My kitty had a blockage last year-it was a kidney stone basically-and it had totally plugged up his urethra. It was a stressful week because the vet would clear a stone, then it'd come back and he'd go right back to the vet. We put him on a special diet and filtered water and we have had zero problems! I hope your kitty is better soon and you have a similar story to ours

@MrsBrewer: according to the poll I think your right. Heading out now to take him to the vet. Have him a little catnip in his box to make it easier on him. Poor guy!

Aww I'm sooo sorry about your kitty! I hope there's something the vet can do!

I take my kitties to the vet once a year, but because one of my cats has stomach/intestinal issues that require us to give him a Vitamin B injection every 3 weeks. So we have to go in anyways for check ups for him, so we just bring in our other cat with.

Don't feel bad though, my mom never took any of her cats into the vet, only if something was wrong. I think that's what most people would do also!

Aw, poor kitty. :( It's no fun for them to be sick cause they don't really know what's going on.

I take my cats whenever they need something, but since they're strictly indoors, I only take them to get shots when we move. It just stresses them out too much for me to put them through it.

However, the dogs go annually for their shots, since they go in and outdoors.

Aw I'm sorry he is sick. We are behind on getting our kitties their shots. Our older one had crystals in his urine which made it hard for him to pee and gave him a bladder infection. It cleared up with some medication the vet gave us and now he eats special food. Hopefully it isn't anything serious!

Aww I'm sorry she is sick. It doesn't sound like anything that could have been prevented though from an annual visit to the vet. It sounds like you should just take her in now and see whats going on!

DH hates my cat, he liked him when we were dating, not anymore. So he has no sympathy for me or the cat right now. Anyways so my cat has been having problems peeing and the vet said I need to get him in right away. Possible blockage, infection, etc. Now I'm worried about my KJ! I haven't taken him to the vet sense I got him 6 years ago because he is an indoor cat & I grew up on the farm. We just never took cats to the vet unless it was an indoor/outdoor cat & now I feel like a horrible mother!

I had put down my first dog (and watched it) several years ago and I have always felt guilty for not giving him the quality of life he deserved. He ended up an old outside dog who had seizures & glaucoma. His time was coming I just wish I would have been a better caretaker for him. Now I'm feeling like a horrible owner for not taking KJ to the vet regularly. I take the dogs at least once a year, so why not the cat?!
