@PinkElephant: well I did bring her to the year end carnival because I thought she was better... since it was outside and I don’t think she was really touching anyway, I’m hoping she didn’t get anyone sick. Ugh.

@Foodnerd81: I am posting just to say THANK YOU to you for not sending your LO to the gymnastics show. I know that had to be such a hard decision to make. and lots of parents just would send their kids and cross their fingers, not really caring who else they impact. Seriously - you rock for considering other families!

We've had a couple instances recently where people have sent still-sick kids to year end activities (one where the child vomited in school on Thursday, and returned on Friday??!?!?!), and while I totally get them not wanting their child to miss out, it's just so frustrating....because then everyone else is just sitting there biting their nails waiting for the ticking time bomb of whether or not their kid got the bug, too! :meh:

@2littlepumpkins: my older one had a stomach bug when the second was a newborn. I was so scared the baby would get it. Thankfully that one was much milder and quicker and the baby was fine.

@codeitall: it’s so hard to know! And now she is bouncing off the walls, completely herself, and it feels silly that we are missing her gymnastics show tonight. But I couldn’t forgive myself if she gave this to other kids (including one of my beat friend’s kid...).

@pinkb: I took some probiotics myself to try and prevent myself getting it and both kids like activia yogurt so I’ve been giving them that. I have probiotic gummies too that I’ll make sure she takes. Good idea.

In Feb my kids had a stomach bug and it took like 10+ days between first symptoms for kid1 to first symptoms for kid2. It was absolutely miserable. (We had a newborn too.) I think we managed to hold off on the spread and then just missed something (rather than it incubating for ten days. Sorry, you totally have my sympathy!!

We just had a bad bug, its been going around. We had to keep DD home extra because of the diarrhea. It started on a Saturday and she went back to school on Wed. It seemed to get better but then would get a little worse. Our biggest help though is probiotics. Our Dr had us give 2 doses the first day (once her tummy felt better) and then regular there after. ( she had something similar when she was 2 and it was over 2 weeks with the most horrible diarrhea and then we started the probiotics and it cleared with in 2 days)

2-4 days. We also had a nasty vomit/diarrhea bug recently. Ugh. We thought she was doing loads better and sent her to daycare 2 days later and she got sent home with MORE diarrhea! She didn't go back to daycare for 5 days after that because I felt bad sending her sick the first time!

@Foodnerd81: I’m playing detective now with my daughter’s diarrhea. Her symptoms are consistent with Crypto and she swam in a pool that had fecal contamination (and was supposedly cleaned) last week. I’m not 100% certain but this one didn’t seem like a tough illness to track down.

You might want to look into Cryptosporidium also. Long lasting gets better and then comes back sounds consistent with it. Of course, there are lots of other bugs out there.

In your experience, have you ever figured out how long from being exposed to an illness (in my current case, a stomach bug), to having symptoms? And how long have stomach bugs lasted for you?

I have been trying to think back to where my younger daughter most likely picked up her bug- started symptoms on Monday. I am positive she gave it to her big sister. Thought she was better yesterday and let her attend an end of the year party at school but she got worse again last night, so now I’m worried she got other kids sick.

And she’s on day 5 of diarrhea now. It feels like forever. Between the two of them this is day 8 of diarrhea for me to deal with. 😫
