@agold: Thanks! I think I'm pretty set on a side car, but I will take a look at those just in case.

@avivoca: We actually did that for DD, but sleeping was a nightmare with her, and she would only sleep if she was directly next to me, so it was mostly used as a hamper. :) I'm hoping the side car would help if this baby is like that too!

We ended up with the PNP at the foot of our bed. Our room is quite small and I actually had a harder time having the baby right next to the bed. I had a rough delivery and it was quite painful for me to get out of the bed, so I needed the room on the side to help me.

@LemonJack: yeah I was surprised considering g how high quality the rest of it is. It's thin and hard and kind of crinkly like plastic. Once we got a crib mattress topper, my son did a lot better in it

I have the halo bassinet. It doesn't directly attach to the bed, but its level with the bed and has mesh see through side. The side bends down fairly easily to get the baby out. And it is on a swivel type thing so I can move it when I want to get out of bed. Its expensive and super heavy, but I'm pleased with it.

@ShootingStar: Oops, just noticed my mistake. I meant to say *I* should look into the smaller ones, not you!

@Iced Tea: Ours does convert, so we could do that, although I don't know if we have the space! We'll have to look into that.

@Mrs. Pen: Good to know on the mattress. Is it super thin?

We have the arms reach co sleeper regular size. I do like it. What we really disliked was the mattress, and my son didn't like it either. I would replace with a better pnp mattress :)

We side carred the actual crib to our bed. We had plenty of space in the room to do so, and I thought it looked more attractive than the arms reach. You can generally side car a crib if it is the kind that converts into a toddler bed (ours is ikea gulliver) and you don't have a wide bed frame. I loved it, and she slept in it for a pretty long time due to its large size.

I'm not sure what we will do this time since we now have a wide platform bed frame. Unfortunately my husband didn't consider that before he bought a new frame.

@ShootingStar: Your reasons for wanting to get the co-sleeper sound exactly like mine! I really hope baby #2 is a better sleeper, but if not I want to be prepared.

Would you mind sharing which co-sleeper you have? I think they have smaller ones so maybe u should look into those as well.

We got an arms reach one and I kind of hated it. With LO1 he never wanted to sleep anywhere but right next to me and woke up every two hours and had to nurse for the first 7 months. So I thought with LO2 that having her close in a side car would be the most convenient. Only she's a much better sleeper and being too close to me me wakes her up and makes her want to eat all night.

I also didn't like the awkwardness of trying to get around it while it was attached to the bed. I had to turn my night stand so it was smaller because I didn't want to have to give it up. But then that moved the cosleeper down really far. And I didn't realize they don't work so good with platform beds.

I'm pregnant with baby #2 and am looking at side car bassinets we can attach directly to our bed. I'm hoping for recommendations from those of you that have used them.

With DD we had a regular bassinet, and it was a disaster. She just would NOT sleep in it. In desperation we also purchased a rock n play and a snuggle nest to put in the bed with us. Neither of those worked either; she just wanted to sleep directly next to me.

This time I'm hoping having a side car will make it more likely baby will actually sleep in his/her own space.

So, if you used one, what kind was it? What did you like/dislike about it? What would you recommend?

The only ones I've really seen are the Arms Reach co-sleepers, but there seem to be a lot of different options, so I'm at a loss.
