I am surprised they gave the shot if your son was already getting sick. My pediatrician always makes us wait until we're AOK before any vaccinations.

Anyway, I'm sure he'll be OK :D

Did you tell your Dr that your LO had a cold? I thought to get the flu shot (adult version), you had to be feeling well and healthy. I don't know about the pediatric version. Maybe your LO's cold was about to get worse and it's possible the the flu shot might have made it a little worse.

I was coming off the flu last year and I wasn't feeling 100% yet but the day I came back to work I was scheduled for my flu shot. They suggested that I wait till I felt normal and healthy.

ETA: I have had sick like symptoms after getting the flu shot. It was gone within a day.

I was told by a doctor friend that if you get sick after the shot, it's likely that you were getting sick already prior to the shot or that you may have even caught something at the doctor's office from a sick person there (assuming you got it at the doctor). I got the impression that it's unlikely you'd get sick from the shot itself, though I'm not a doc so take that with a grain of salt :-)

Its funny you bring this topic up, because I was wondering the same think. LO got a flu shot for the first time on Tuesday, and has been breaking out in sweats from time to time and having trouble sleeping through the night. I wondered if it was an effect of the shot.

I got pretty violently ill the first time I ever got a flu shot, but it only lasted a day. I've never been sick like that again.

Both kids have seemed fine after their flu shots but if it can affect adults like that, it must be able to affect kids too?

DS is 9 months and got a flu shot on Saturday. He had a cold starting Friday (congestion and runny nose) but it's gotten worse since Saturday. My mom thinks it might be side effects from the flu shot. Can this happen in babies like in adults? Maybe @mrs.jacks can weigh in, too?
