I also got "Meet The Sight Words" by Preschool Prep DVD set (it comes in a set of 3). We turn it on in the car for longer trips.

Teach your monster to read

It's an app created by Usborne Publishing. I love how there's different skill levels that the parents pick for beginning readers, emerging readers, advanced readers, etc. They were having a promotion couple of months ago and it was free but I think it's $4.99. My LO loves it

@looch: I love Raz Kids! DS was so excited today as he got to the next level. He was so proud of himself. My complain with it is, when it gets to a higher level, there are so many questions they have to answer. There used to be 5 or 6 multiple choice questions. I took a peek today, and his level got 12 questions to answer for the book he just read. Then as you get higher, you have to type an answer out for one of the questions. It gets tricky when your reader can read but not quite spelling and writing somewhat fluently yet. DS used to be addicted to that app, but as he got into higher levels, he got discouraged and he avoided that app because he didn't want to answer 12 questions.

Another app our school has a subscription to is Reading Eggs. DS also loves that too but unfortunately both of them require online content for it to work... sorry I am of no help...

We have a reading app called Raz Kids that we use for online content.

As for sight words, I really liked Pop for Sightwords.

We couldn’t get into the bob books. We do sight word flash cards after dinner every night and my 5 year old thinks it is so much fun. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01M0VAQMM/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1510969615&sr=8-8&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=sight+words+flash+cards&dpPl=1&dpID=51HA7f12DsL&ref=plSrch

Any recommendations? My 5 yo is a beginner reader and we've got a long car trip this weekend.

Here are some of the ones his teacher suggested, but I'd love firsthand experience before buying them:

Reading Raven
Howie Hungry Monster
BOB Books
