Definitely following this thread - I think LO is showing several signs of potty readiness, too, but I am putting off potty training until after we move. We do have a potty and she sits on it once a day or so and mimics the whole process of wiping, flushing, etc. but she has never gone on it. I go back and forth between wondering if it's good that we have the potty seat for her to get used to - or if I should have waited until we are really training because it feels a little like a game for her.

We introduced the potty to DD a week before she turned 21 months and she did great! I just had her pee in the potty before bath time and she did every time. I never pushed it and we took our time with it. I kept her in diapers but over time she would tell me she needs to go more and more. I finally switched her to underwear when she was 28 months and it was so easy and barely any accidents. By then she was already so use to the potty. I say just introduce it and see! Doesn't hurt!

@Smurfette: I'm REALLY glad to hear that the ring seat worked well for you. I just ordered two (LO just turned 2) and am hoping to avoid the tiny potty  . I also think it will be so much easier out and about if she doesn't fear the big potty. I'm not interested in lugging a portable one around if I can help it!

I don't think there's any sure signs. My lo has followed me in regularly and then screamed when I tried to put her on. But after waiting a couple weeks I just ask randomly she was all about it. Id try it out and see.

@Chillybear: @avivoca: my advice, find out what kind of potty day care has and do the same. Ours just has a shorter regular one. So we got a ring for ours at home. She uses a step-stool to get up there, but now she doesn't even use the ring. Just sits on it and uses her hands to support herself so she doesn't fall it. But she has no issues going in public since they look all the same.

We went ahead and pulled the trigger a little over 2 weeks ago. She has been sitting on the potty before bath since 22/23 months. I can't remember. Then started once a day at day care around 24 months. For the last couple months she would tell us she would need to go, sometimes would go, even pooped a couple times, but mostly I think she liked to flush the toilet. But two weeks ago, day care finally (they should have started sooner in my opinion) taking her every hour. She has success 2-3 times a day right way. She always tells us as soon as she poops too. So we pulled the trigger that weekend. Took her to Target to pick out big girl panties and pull-ups. We still use pull-ups when we are out (but have taken her in panties before) and at day care, otherwise she is in big girl panties at home. She still naps with a diaper/pull up and diaper at night. But she is getting it.

Your day care should work on it before the 3-4 room.

My daughter is around the same age and we bought a little potty for her bathroom a few months ago. She likes to sit on it (with her diaper on or even all her clothes on!) and pretend to go and wipe. I say try getting a potty and see what happens. We have put LO on the potty without her diaper a few times and she doesn't go but we figure that when she is ready, she will do it.

Btw, I don't think you are jumping the gun at all, especially for a girl. Our daycare requires toddlers to be potty trained before moving up to the preschool room, and that room starts at age 2 years 9 months.

I can tell you both that M has no interest in the potty and I don't see any signs that he's ready so trust your gut! Our daycare starts working on it at 22-24 months so I'm planning on following their lead.

Our dog hasn't shown any interest at all in her diapers or trash, so i'm hoping that wont be an issue otherwise we'll just shut the door while we're out. I'm more worried about her keeping it in the bathroom and not dragging it around the house.
We bought a baby pool at target this weekend and while i waited for hubs to come home to fill it, she dragged it from living room to the kitchen to the dining room to sit in it, until i brought it outside.

@Chillybear: I think H is afraid of it too, but at the same time I don't want to get a little potty seat because it will be hard to keep the cats and dog out of it when it's empty.

@avivoca: Yeah Fi tells the world if she poops or toots. I think she's afraid of the big potty so i'm wondering if a potty chair might be better.

I don't know, but I'm following. H can tell us when she has pooped, is very interested in our potty habits, and has started pulling off her diapers a bit. She won't sit on the big potty though.

my daughter is 21 months and we cloth diaper. She is showing a big interest in our potty habits, and mimics me wiping, flushing, washing hands etc. She often wants to be a "naked baby" but has yet to start pulling off her diapers, thankfully.

My nieces didn't really get into the whole potty thing until closer to 3 and I'm not sure how our daycare handles potty training this early. I get the impression that's more a skill they work on in the next room (3-4 year old) I figured I had at least another 6-10 months before we'd be working on this.

What other signs should I be looking for that she's ready for the potty? Should i go and buy a potty seat or ring seat and see what she thinks? Be honest, am I jumping the gun?
