It's only because you are getting used to the pill again. When I was on it, I would regularly only have my period 4 times per year, by skipping the placebos for 3 months. I didn't spot during my regular period time once my body got used to the hormones in the pill.

My doctor suggested this IOT help with my iron deficiency, and I continued it for years because of the convenience. For the record, there's no medical necessity for women on hormonal BC to have periods. When the BCP was introduced, the men who invented it thought it was unnatural for women not have monthly periods, hence the placebo. It's since been proven false.

FWIW, when I do finally go back on the BCP, I'll be doing the same thing, and fully expect to get spotting at first.

It's not uncommon to get spotting (also called "breakthrough bleeding" in this circumstance) when you are taking birth control continuously (skipping the placebo).

I think a little bit of spotting is normal when you're extending a cycle that way. Unfortunately (?) it's not something I have experienced...but still normal, if that makes sense?

Ok- silly question here... I haven't been on birth control for years and years, and have recently had to start it back up to gear up for my hysteroscopy this coming Tuesday. I was told to take the first pack one day 3 of bleeding last cycle, then skip the last row; placebos, then start the next pack.. I just started that second pack yesterday (in normal days; I would have started my period yesterday) but obviously my RE is making my body halt that for this procedure...
After that ramble- is it normal to still feel period cramps and pains and small amounts of light brown discharge??
Those little pills are so not my friend !
