@mrsjazz: excellent decision! Safety first! :silly: I saw a woman get in a cab at JFK with an infant and no car seat and I almost died.

@mrsjazz: Could you send her a seat via Amazon prime? The Cosco scenera is well rated, cheap, super light and easy to install forward facing (rear is a bit of a pain but not impossible). If it's really less than a mile though I would just walk it.

@hotchildinthecity: My mom can pick us up. I'm just not willing to drive without the car seat. Neither is she. She probably won't have time to get the car seat between now and Saturday because of work and house stuff.

@Pirouette: That is so nice of you. We sold our snap and go and we have a City Mini. We aren't planning on driving while we're there, just for the ride to and from the station. For the next trip we'll be more prepared!

@IcebergMom: That is the funniest thing I've ever heard. My mom will not be pre-walking the route for me. She doesn't even believe Google that it's 1 mile.

I have the combi and last weekend we put the combi into the stroller (we took NJ transit) and I'm guessing that doesn't work with your car seat because it's too big. what stroller do you have? does it have a big basket? I'd be happy to lend you my combi if it would solve your problems! but it would only help you if it fits in your stroller basket, because I don't have a snap and go for it. Are you going to be driving around a lot out there? or is this all just for the 5 minute drive to/from the train?

We would probably walk in your situation, or if your mom is already planning on buying a car seat, can she get one by the weekend?

I would consider the taxi and ask them to drive really really slow/carefully.

Is there any other reason to bring the convertible other than to ride from the train station to the house? If not, then I would just bring the stroller.

We used a cart thing that @LovelyPlum: suggested and it worked really well with our Britax seat. Granted we only pulled her from the parking lot to the check in desk at the airport but she actually even stayed asleep in it!

Yeah i'd prob just go for the taxi without a car seat but it's cool if you dont want to. I'm pretty sure most of the train stations have a car service company right there...can you call ahead and see if you can get a cab with a car seat? I know some places provide them.

We went to Boston last year with our LO and managed everything without car seat via the subway system and walking! I vote leave the car seat! You'll manage with the stroller. You coul always send luggage by taxi and meet it there if you were worried about lugging so much.

@mrsjazz: This logistical question has made my head spin so many times! We ended up getting a Combi Cocorro because it goes on a Snap n Go base for situations like the one you describe. Does anyone you know (or maybe someone on your local parenting listserv) have a Combi and Snap n Go you could borrow for the day? Not ideal, but one idea.

I hate walking so I'd ride without a seat. If you don't mind walking that's probably your option. Carrying the seat and wrangling a toddler seems difficult. Plus depending on the taxi you could spend more time trying to get the seat in than the total drive time.

@yoursilverlining: Technically, yes. I have a lot of issues with cars. Even though it's legal to ride sans car seat in taxis and it's only a 5-minute drive, I would never get into a car with LO without a car seat.

I wish the car seat had a carrying strap or something to make it easy.

This is a really stupid/silly thing, but I'm trying to work out how we will travel this weekend. We are going to Long Island via LIRR. The house we are going to is a 5-minute drive from the station and a 27-minute walk. According to Google Maps it looks pretty walkable with sidewalks, but I can't see the entire route via Street View and I know some areas of LI are not exactly walkable.

The issue is the big old convertible car seat. We could lug the thing on the subway and LIRR and I could carry LO, but she is not enjoying being carried as much. Or we could just bring the stroller and make the 30-minute walk from the station to the house.

Renting a car is not an option for this weekend, we will most likely do that next time we go though. Going to see my mom's new house! She's also going to buy a car seat for LO so we have one that we can set up.

That car seat is huge and heavy! I don't know why I'm overthinking this. My mom seems to think that the walk is way longer than Google says. Any ideas? Suggestions?
