@SorryCharlie: I bought a few of the Coobie bras one of the other posters recommended. Although the sizes say they only go up to DD - they are pretty stretchy. (I am currently wearing a size 32D Coobie bra even though my regular bras are 32DDs, and I am starting to grow out of those.) Something like that, or a light sports bra or nursing tank or something with support but without irritating straps and hooks would probably do the trick.

sorry! crazy weekend - okay, so I took the bra pads off the registry. I did have to go out and buy a box of disposables though. I tried to find reusable ones at Target (I clearly remembering buying them there for my SIL's shower!) but they didn't have any. I was so bummed. So I'll go through these disposables until I find some reusable ones.

I tried to go without one day and it went through my shirt. My mom thinks its hilarious because I'm so freaked out! I'm only 5 months, for pete's sake!

Kind of a spinoff...

Did/do you wear a bra to bed? I tried not to one night and within a few minutes my shirt was wet. But a bra is awfully uncomfortable too!

@Mrs. Stroller: I agree! I had to switch to cloth breast pads because they just didn't breathe enough for me & plus the stickiness of the disposables was more annoying than helpful for me. I bought mine though, I used bamboobies organic breast pads.

same as many of you pp's, I leak like crazy!! My milk came in on day 3 - but I think that's pretty typical as long as you nurse the baby often those first few days.

I as well, leak right after showering - it's like a dripping faucet! I leak on the opposite while nursing, I leak inbetween feedings and I leak when I'm away from him, or if he's crying. It's soo crazy. I got through a lot of my reusable pads each day too. I need to start carrying around an extra t-shirt because I often leak in public and that is soo embarrassing!

For now I'd say no more than a box, I still have about 3/4 of a box left over. After the first couple weeks you'll want to get out of the house and can buy more later on if you need them.

I only had the tiniest bit of spotting before birth, had to use pads for the first month or so afterwards, and now don't need anything unless I miss a couple pumpings/feedings, which is rare.

I had plenty of colostrum and milk came in about 4 days after birth.

@Cvbee-when I was doing the nurse one side pump the other thing, I found the football hold to be the most comfortable. I'd sit on the floor against my bed with LO propped up on pillows under my arm (her feet under the bed) and that gave me the support she needed but also the flexibility to hold the pump with the other hand.

@purrpletulips: that's a great idea, thanks!
Today I tried pumping while BFing baby on other boobie and it was way too complicated for me. Maybe those would be nice and simple and useful at the same time.

@sorrycharlie: I am cloth diapering, and didn't buy very many newborn size diapers, so I do laundry pretty much every day. I have 4 pairs of washable breast pads (one pair is an 'overnight') and I run out of pads every day. But I feel like I leak maybe more than most people, and I don't like putting a pad back on if it is partly wet. So if I could do it all again, I'd get double of what I have (so, 6 pairs of day pads and 2 pairs of overnights).

I had colostrum early like you, it took 3 days for my milk to come in. LO is 9 weeks old and I leak through disposable pads still! My right side leaks way worse (thanks to my teenage stupiditity deciding to get it pierced *facepalm*). Everyone is different

I have an entire box of disposable breast pads left from my first, but that is more because I only leaked at night and just wasn't comfortable sleeping in a bra so I'd just change my shirt when I got up and it was wet; some nights I went through 3-4 shirts.

@Cvbee-they make these things that you can use to catch the milk that leaks, someone posted about them on here but I can't remember who or when (I think they are called milkies). Might be something to look into since you leak when your LO is nursing (most likely during let down).

@sorrycharlie: I don't like disposable breast pads. I know they're popular, but they have a plastic lining and don't let your breasts "breathe." I had to take antibiotics a couple times early on and ended up with thrush (yeast infection on the boobs that the baby can get in its mouth, it's awful), which the pads made worse. I ended up just using just pieces of flannel cut up into squares that I wash in a garment bag and reuse.

@sorrycharlie: @Mrs. Stroller: Agreed about leaking after baby - my LO is almost three months old and I haven't use breast pads in I'm guessing a month? I think 60 is plenty for right now. You might end up using more. My sister has a 7 month old and still leaks - you might need them .

As far as when your milk will come in, it's hard to say. I leaked around week 30 and my milk came in day 2 after my LO was born. I guess it depends on you :)

@cvbee: true! one of those wait and see what happens things I suppose!

@Mrs. Stroller: I am at 4 weeks and leaking like CRAZY when LO is napping, when I feed him (other one leaks), and especially after my bath/shower. I got washable breastpads and I soak all of them through before the day is through. Hoping one day I'll stp leaking too.

I don't think it will make any difference. Your milk will come in if you have your baby nursing every hour or two when the time comes :) It's kind of interesting though, I leaked when my baby was first born, but by 6w or so I didn't anymore. I have a HUGE box of breast pads in the nursery that I will never use!

I have no idea, as mine never leaked...but at least you'll know that you will have milk. I had zero leaking and every time I read that 'your breasts might start leaking now' or heard about other gals with their leaking boobies I wondered if maybe mine weren't going to work. I was a bit worried. :)

My guess is that you will still have colostrum because I've read a zillion things about pregnancy and they often say that breasts might leak during pregnancy, but they ALWAYS say that the first couple of days you have colostrum.

my boobs started leaking at 20 weeks. like, quite a bit. I have to wear breast pads..they don't soak through the pads, but if I skip a pad, they make a wet spot on my t-shirt (if bra-less). DH thinks its hilarious.

anyway..does this mean that my milk will come in earlier after baby comes? or will I still have a few days of colostrum only? does leaking early mean absolutely nothing aside from having to buy breastpads?
