thanks everyone! ❤️ sounds like it's not the Zantac after all and have restarted him on it as of this morning. now we are dealing with a formula issue (per my newest post) but hopefully that will get worked out soon.

Both my kids were on Zantac (and one on Prilosec) and no issues with constipation. I'm betting it's the change in formula.

LO is on Zantac 3 times a day along with Nexium and Carafate, no poop issues so far - I don't think I have heard it causes constipation, but I am not sure! Maybe the formula? Does infant formula have iron? I think that can cause constipation.

LO has been on Zantac twice a day since she was 6 weeks old, and she's 4.5 months old now. No issues with constipation. I hope your little one feels better soon!

FWIW we just added the prune juice into a milk bottle until about 6 months. It was easier.

Went to the pediatrician today and she thinks it was the Similac Sensitive causing it since it has more soy than the advanced. We switched back to the advanced. She told us to try the pure juice in between a feeding today as well. She also said she did not think it was the Zantac but I'm going to see how he does off it for a few days.

@Rocker2014: Good point. To clarify, our constipation issues were exacerbated by Zantac, but were also from iron supplements, a dairy allergy, and being a preemie.

We had no constipation issues with Zantac causing constipation, and LO took it twice per day. Not that helpful, I know, but just wanted to let you know it could be something else.

We started in the NICU at 31 weeks gestation. So it should be fine. You buy them at the drugstore. Just get the pediatric ones and break off a piece a little bigger than a tictac. :bummed:

@MrsSRS: Ah! I kinda figured it was the Zantac. :bummed: little one is 5 weeks old, can I use the 1/3 suppository on him? is that too little? we tried the thermometer and the cotton swab with warm water and that didn't work unfortunately, so bummed! :crying:

Yep. Stupid Zantac. We used 1/3 of a toddler glycerin suppository until LO was old enough to add 1/2-1 oz of prune juice in one bottle a day.

@paigeface: poor LO! Hope it gets better soon! The thermometer worked occassionally for us. He only takes the prilosec once a day though, that could make a difference too.

@Eko: They are probably pretty similar! He has been screaming in pain for the last hour, I feel terrible. I tried the rectal thermometer with no luck so far. :crying:

Not entirely the same, but my LO got constipated when he started prilosec. But, it worked itself out in a couple days.

Hi ladies! Hope everyone is having a great week!
LO hasn't gone in 3 days and when he did go 3 days ago it was like play-doh and a bit hard. Now he seems to be straining after feeds and a little more fussy than usual like he's pushing. I called the pediatrician nurse and she said to try the rectal thermometer to get things going which I haven't tried yet but I am going to today. I did a switch from Similac Advance to Similac Sensitive because on the advance he was having horrible gas and some spit up. The sensitive cleared that right up but could that be causing the constipation. The nurse said it should help if anything - but what are your experiences? Also when I mentioned he's on baby Zantac twice a day for his reflux she said that could be causing it, did anyone else have this problem? Does anyone have any other remedies that could help? (they told me I couldn't do the prune juice until he was 6 weeks)

Thank you in advanced!
