@dc yoga bee: We used the generic version of Similac Sensitive. Our pediatrician told us the rules around formula are so strict that the generic is really nearly identical to the name brand. We would just get whichever was on sale or whichever was at the store we happened to be at - Target, Walmart, and CVS all have generic versions.

They used Similac in the hospital but we are using Enfamil at home. I felt that Similac made him more gassy. Now I'm thinking of trying Gerber to see if it helps w his tummy and constipation.

I ended up using Similac Total Comfort, after trying Enfamil (can't remember which one). It's not as common as the others, though, so some stores don't always have it. My LO did/does great w it.

When we needed to start supplementing my LC recommended Enfamil so that's what we always used. She always drank anything-- powder, ready to feed, the normal or gentle version, ppl us breastmilk, and now wcm. She also didn't care if it was warmed, room temp, or cold. Basically my baby just likes milk no matter what :silly:

@dc yoga bee: we used enfamil. LO never had any issues with it so I didn't want to mess with a good thing!
ETA I usually bought it at target when they had offers like $10 gift card when you buy 2 or from sams. At target I could also use enfamil coupons that I got via mail or email.

We used kirkland for 1 and 2 and that saved us a ton of money. That money saved was spent on #3. He was on Enfamil Gentlease. Everything (regular enfamil, similac, kirkland) else gave him diarrhea and/or increase spit up.

With DD we started with Similac because that is what my OB had samples of; we ended up supplementing because my pumping couldn't keep up with her needs and switched to Enfamil because my sister could get it for free from the doctor's office she worked at. With DS we just used Enfamil because my of my sister (and my OB also had samples). I asked the hospital for the Enfamil because I knew that is what we'd use (they rotate giving out Similac and Enfamil for half a year each but always have both on hand).

We started with Similac Sensitive & then went to Enfamil Gentlease because I (incorrectly) thought they were similar. Similac Sensitive is lactose free, and Enfamil Gentlease has the dairy proteins broken down. She didn't do well on Enfamil so we went back to Similac Sensitive, and eventually switched to Similac Total Comfort. Total Comfort is Similac's version of Gentlease.

I am sort of brand loyal to Similac just because that's what we started with & our one brief switch didn't go that well.

I voted Enfamil, because we used those samples for 2-3 months, but after that we used Costco brand. SO MUCH CHEAPER!
My ped told me that Enfamil sold Kirkland their research, so the formulas are almost identical.

Ha. We started with Similac Advance / Similac for Supplementation. Started buying the generic (CVS/Target/Walmart) for Similac Advance. Switched to Similac for Spit Up per ped. 2nd time I just bought the generic of Enfamil A/R (both are added rice formulas for spit-up.) No difference. Not much change in LO's symptoms so we switched to Similac Total Comfort (did not find a generic.) No change. Tried Similac Alimentum for dairy sensitivity. No change. Got LO on Zantac and tried Enfamil something or other (I think gentlease) but generic, but it seemed to be too much like the Alimentum. Back to A/R generic, but it seemed to bother her still, so we switched to generic of Similac Sensitive. So far, so good with that one.

Don't rule out generics!!!! AND- ask your ped for samples. We almost always start out that way when making changes.

In prepping for LO #2 to get here we wanted to make sure we have ready to feed formula on hand. With DD we used Similac Advance because that was what the hospital had but she had a lot of spit up issues and we never gave switching formula a chance. So I'm thinking maybe we will give Enfamil a try this time?

What did you use if you formula fed or supplemented?
